Watch: Over 50k fans vote Saka over Salah into team of the season

As the Premier League took a brief break for the FA Cup third round at the start of January, we decided to release our best rated XI of the season so far at that moment in time. It's fair to say it created quite a stir on social media as people questioned the inclusion of some and the absence of others. With only 11 places to fill, and in the case of many just one position, there will always be some big name absentees.

But it also raised a talking point at WhoScored HQ, which is not currently a headquarters but everyone working from home. Who do the WhoScored followers think is the team of the season so far? So we decided to run a series of polls during the week to find out and how it differed from our official XI. We presented at the highest WhoScored rated players per position and put it out for votes on Twitter to find out your ultimate XI. More than 54,000 votes were cast to get to the end result, revealed exclusively in our brand new podcast, Edge of the Box.
