Five England internationals on European U21 form rankings leaderboard

As many as five England internationals, all of whom have been called up to Gareth Southgate’s latest squad, make up the top ten U21 player form rankings this week as the Three Lions travel to the Czech Republic.

The rankings include players from each of Europe’s top five leagues with a stipulation that they must have been 21 or under at the start of the current campaign. Our WhoScored.com ratings are then weighted by their relevance over each player’s last six league appearances.

10. Declan Rice (West Ham) - 7.17 weighted rating

Falling four places following a sub-par performance by his already high standards against Crystal Palace, Rice was tidy in possession, completing 92.1 per cent of his passes but will want to improve over the international break.

9. Alban Lafont (Nantes) - 7.24 weighted rating

Having earned a third consecutive clean sheet and fifth in his last six Ligue 1 appearances, with all five matches ending in 1-0 victories for Nantes, Lafont is proving to be an inspired loan signing.

8. Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 7.24 weighted rating

Back on the scoresheet after a four-match run without a goal, Mount wasn’t at his best in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory at Southampton but will take the confidence from a fourth league goal of the season into the international break.

7. Martin Odegaard (Real Sociedad) - 7.25 weighted rating

After a quiet display compared to the excellent performances he has put in to date on loan at Sociedad, Odegaard is down five places this week having failed to add to his tallies of two goals and two assists this season against Getafe.

6. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.27 weighted rating

Falling from top spot to sixth by virtue of being rested for the game at Freiburg, Sancho was stiill required to come off the bench and register his fifth league assist of the season already in an ultimately disappointing 2-2 draw.

5. Sandro Tonali (Brescia) - 7.28 weighted rating

With Brescia not in action at the weekend Tonali’s rating is unchanged but the Italian does climb five places as a consequence of some abject displays from those above his last week.

4. Federico Chiesa (Fiorentina) - 7.33 weighted rating

Another beneficiary from said drop offs from the competition this week, Chiesa is up one place despite not being at his best himself as Fiorentina won 1-0 against Udinese. The winger had five shots without scoring but did create two chances for teammates.

3. Victor Osimhen (Lille) - 7.39 weighted rating

Lille’s new marksman also saw his weighted rating drop from last week but he is up open place regardless having scored his customary home goal and seventh of the league campaign. The Nigerian has now scored in all six of his competitive appearances at home for his new club but is yet to find the net on his travels.

2. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.55 weighted rating

Climbing six places this week, Alexander-Arnold links up with England in fine form having created five chances and completed a further five interceptions as Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the season late on against Leicester.

1. Tammy Abraham (Chelsea) - 7.76 weighted rating

There were very few eyebrows raised when Tammy Abraham was named in Gareth Southgate’s recent England squad and there are some that feel the striker warrants more than just a back-up role to Harry Kane on current form. The Chelsea striker bagged his eighth league goal of the season at the weekend - joining Sergio Aguero atop the Premier League charts on that figure - earning a third man of the match rating of the campaign against Southampton.

Qualifying Rules

Only ratings from each player’s last six league matches are considered, weighted chronologically, with the most recent match carrying greater importance and so on. To qualify each player must have featured in two of the last three league matches and started at least six of the last eight available.
