Ligue 1 round-up: Former Celtic striker Dembele the star man in best XI

Moussa Dembele seems to be settling into life in Lyon well. The French striker made just his second league start of his career with the French side in the midweek 3-0 win at Dijon and showcased his exceptional goalscoring talent with a brace in the victory. Lyon will have rued the exit of Mariano, who returned to Real Madrid, but Dembele certainly proved why he’s a worthy successor to the frontman at Parc OL.

The former Celtic man netted two of Lyon’s three goals in the midweek win as they made it three wins from their last three competitive outings, with his two goals coming from four shots. Not only that, but Dembele won four aerial duels, made two key passes and completed three dribbles to return a WhoScored rating of 9.23, the best of all players in gameweek seven of the Ligue 1 season.

PSG pair Edinson Cavani and Neymar make up the final two podium places in the top-rated players after solid showings from the duo in PSG’s comfortable 4-1 win over Reims. The former landed a WhoScored rating of 8.79 in the comfortable victory for the defending Ligue 1 champions, with Cavani hitting the back of the net with two of his six shots on goal. All in all, it was a performance that landed him the man of the match award.

Neymar, too, hit the back of the net, with the Brazilian scoring from one of his four shots in the midweek triumph, while additional returns of three key passes and six successful dribbles saw the 26-year-old return a WhoScored rating of 8.65.

Indeed, PSG put Reims to the sword, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy shipping four in the loss. Reims have been solid at the back this term, conceding just nine goals, so this was a rare off day for Mendy, who earned the lowest WhoScored rating (5.00) in Ligue 1 this week. The goalkeeper was at fault for Cavani’s second in the loss in the capital as the 26-year-old saved just three of the seven shots on target he faced.
