Poland vs Portugal - full match preview

Kicking off the quarter-finals, newcomers to this stage Poland face perennial qualifiers for the last eight Portugal. Fernando Santos’ men indeed enter the game as favourites despite having not won a match in 90 minutes thus far. Both have star men who were tipped to light up the tournament, though Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo have appeared fatigued and been far from their best as a result.

Indeed, both teams have struggled to break opponents down at times, forced to extra time in their round of 16 matches against Switzerland and Croatia respectively. A repeat on Thursday night certainly seems a distinct possibility, with Poland one of only two sides at the tournament yet to be trailing at any stage. The odds, then, of the game to be decided in extra time @7.00 are extremely appealing.

Wales vs Belgium - full match preview

Whilst undoubtedly the underdogs as they come up against Belgium, Chris Coleman’s side will take real confidence from having picked up four points against the Red Devils in qualifying for the tournament. Moreover, Marc Wilmots has a selection dilemma (or two) at the back. Already in the absence of captain Vincent Kompany, Belgium are now without Thomas Vermaelen through suspension, while Jan Vertonghen set to be sidelined with an ankle injury, meaning Toby Alderweireld could be the only fully fit first choice defender.

Up against a Wales side who are not only the second top scorers at the tournament  (7) - incidentally behind Belgium (8) - but also the only side to open the scoring in each game they have played this summer, odds on the underdogs seem high. Whether or not Coleman’s side will have enough to win over 90 minutes is unclear but odds @3.25 on the Dragons to open the scoring mean that is my tip for Friday night.

Germany vs Italy - full match preview

Saturday night’s meeting between Germany and Italy is unquestionably the glamour tie of the quarter finals, with the victor likely to be well-fancied to go on to lift the trophy. While world champions Germany have grown into the tournament to meet expectations - as they tend to do - it’s fair to say Italy are exceeding them, with most labelling this Azzurri squad as the weakest in decades.

Antonio Conte has his team exceptionally well-drilled though, and can point to Italy’s superb record against Germany in major tournaments having yet to suffer defeat. That, however, doesn’t change the fact that Joachim Loew’s side are justified favourites, but this game is likely to be extremely tight. Die Mannschaft are the only side yet to concede a goal and will fancy their chances of continuing that trend against this Italy side, with odds on the Germans to win to nil in 90 minutes at @3.10 representing decent value.

France vs Iceland - full match preview

Rounding off the quarter-finals, hosts France will hope to succeed where England failed in ending the fairytale that is Iceland’s recent rise to this level, temporarily at least. There’s no denying the fact that les Bleus - now re-established as favourites given the draw - have underwhelmed to this point though, and they have had a warning shot that they cannot rest on their laurels against this Iceland side.

Thus far, however, Didier Deschamps men have only really come to life in the second half of matches, which has been accredited to a manner of things, be it nerves, complacency or questionable decisions from the manager. Indeed, France are the only side left in the tournament yet to score a first half goal, while no side at this point have netted more before the break than Iceland (4). Odds on the hosts to fire yet another blank before the interval @2.10 against an incredibly organised opponent are tempting to say the least.
