Manchester City looking to maintain great form in Tottenham meeting

Tottenham travel to Manchester City on Saturday evening in arguably the Premier League game of the weekend. Spurs are back to winning ways in England’s top tier, with victories over Stoke City and Brighton lifting them back into the top four and boosting morale ahead of their difficult trip to the Etihad Stadium. 

The Manchester City juggernaut shows no signs of slowing and after securing a record breaking 15th successive Premier League win, will be confident of extending that run this weekend. Mauricio Pochettino’s struggles away at traditional top-six sides is well documented, though he has lost just one of his last four meetings with opposite number Pep Guardiola. 

Nevertheless, City are overwhelming favourites to secure all three points and for good reason having dropped just two points all season in their procession for the Premier League title. Spurs have the opportunity to slow their progress, though the best that can happen is the gap at the top will close from 11 points to eight. 

Tottenham’s attack, though, appears to be clicking back into gear at just the right time, with Heung-min Son on top form coming into this clash. The South Korean netted the crucial equaliser in the 2-2 draw last season and has now scored in each of his last four competitive starts. The battle between two key creators may prove to be the difference at the Etihad Stadium, however.

David Silva has been in flying form of late. No player has registered more assists than the City star (8) in Europe’s top five leagues this season, while Silva has had a direct hand in five of his last six Premier League starts in a City shirt. When on top form, the 31-year-old is arguably the Premier League’s best player and many now believe he to be the frontrunner for the PFA Player of the Year award, leapfrogging teammate Kevin De Bruyne in those stakes. 

It is impossible to completely discredit Christian Eriksen, though, with Tottenham's Great Dane chipping in with four goals and four assists this term. A return of 38 key passes is the fifth best in the Premier League this season and while his form has wavered in recent weeks, he has the means to turn a match in Spurs’ favour in the blink of an eye. He scored the winning goal in Spurs’ 2-1 win over City last February and he’ll hope to add to his return in Saturday’s evening kick off, a match where goals are very much on the cards.
