Arsenal striker leads Premier League Team of the Week dominated by Liverpool

 

Liverpool absolutely tore Manchester United to shreds on Tuesday night and it's no surprise that the Reds dominate the Premier League team of the week. However, title rivals Manchester City also won in the week as the Cityzens returned to top spot with both teams represented in the best XI. Representatives from Burnley, Newcastle and Arsenal also make the cut. 

 

Nick Pope (Burnley) - 7.37 

 

Burnley earned a vital 2-0 win over Southampton on Thursday night with Nick Pope putting in a solid shift between the sticks. He earned a WhoScored rating of 7.37 to kick off the XI having made four saves in the victory. 

 

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - 7.89 

 

Manchester City responded to Liverpool's 4-0 win over Manchester United by beating Brighton 3-0 on Wednesday. Joao Cancelo put in a solid shift from right-back as he made five tackles, four interceptions and two clearances to feature with a WhoScored rating of 7.89. 

 

Nathan Collins (Burnley) - 8.61 

 

The second of three Burnley players, Nathan Collins was the star man against Southampton on Thursday night. Collins hit the back of the net with one of two efforts on goal, while seven clearances and three tackles saw him land of the man of the match award with a WhoScored rating of 8.61. 

 

 

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.34 

 

Virgil van Dijk partners Collins at the heart of the defence having earned a WhoScored rating of 7.34 in Liverpool's 4-0 win over Manchester United. The towering Dutchman won five aerial duels in the victory, and found a teammate with 93.9% of his 115 attempted passes as the Reds tore United apart. 

 

Andy Robertson (Liverpool) - 7.50 

 

Rounding off the defence is the second of five Liverpool players in the side. Andy Robertson was unable to add to his 10 league assists this season, but it wasn't for want of trying as he created three goalscoring chances to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.50. 

 

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 8.81 

 

Mohamed Salah showed that he is back to his best for the Reds on Tuesday night as he had a direct hand in three of their four goals against Manchester United. The Liverpool star found a way past David De Gea with two of four shots while his only key pass resulted in the assist for Luis Diaz's opener to contribute towards his deserved inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 8.81. 

 

Josh Brownhill (Burnley) - 8.40 

 

Of the three assists Josh Brownhill has registered this season, two came in Burnley's 2-0 win over Southampton. Brownhill turned provider for Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins in the opening 45 minutes at Turf Moor. That brace of assists came from five key passes, while one tackle and one interception saw the Clarets man earn a WhoScored rating of 8.40.

Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle) - 8.21 

 

Earning his third successive WhoScored man of the match award, Bruno Guimaraes provided the assist for Miguel Almiron's winner in Newcastle's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in midweek. To go with with his assist and two key passes, Guimaraes also completed six dribbles to return a WhoScored rating of 8.21. On Tyne, you do talk about Bruno.

 

Luis Diaz (Liverpool) - 8.23 

 

The penultimate Liverpool player in the side, of the four league goals Luis Diaz has been directly involved in for the Reds, two came against Manchester United on Tuesday night. The Colombian scored the opener with five minutes on the clock and followed that up with the assist for Sadio Mane's goal midway through the second half to nail down the left wing spot with a rating of 8.23. 

 

Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal) - 9.04 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 9.04, Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is the Premier League player of the week. Nketiah's Arsenal contract may expire in the summer, but potential suitors will have been impressed by his man of the match performance in the Gunners' 4-2 win at Chelsea on Wednesday. The 22-year-old netted with two of five shots and he worked hard off the ball, too, as he made three tackles to cap a fine performance at Stamford Bridge. 

 

Sadio Mane (Liverpool) - 8.59 

 

Rounding off the team of the week is the fifth Liverpool player in the side. Sadio Mane continued his good form for the Reds as he directly contributed to two of their four goals at Anfield in the week. Mane assisted for Mohamed Salah in the first half with a wonderful ball through to the Egyptian and then bagged 14th league goal of the campaign midway through the second half. Two shots, one key pass and one tackle saw the Senegal star return a WhoScored rating of 8.59 to round off the XI.
