Japan held Uruguay to a respectable 2-2 draw, but it would have been worse had the experienced Eiji Kawashima not performed to the best of his ability. While the Strasbourg stopper shipped twice, he managed eight saves, more than any other goalkeeper in a Copa America match this summer, to ensure a point for Japan.
Right-back: Dani Alves (Brazil) - 7.35 rating
Copa America hosts Brazil saw three goals ruled out through VAR in their 0-0 draw with Venezuela and it means the Selecao are restricted to just two players in the team of the round. Captain Dani Alves is the first of two Brazil stars as he made three key passes in the stalemate, and defended solidly too, making two clearances, one tackle and one interception.
Centre-back: Jose Gimenez (Uruguay) - 8.53 rating
The first of three Uruguay players, Jose Gimenez put in a man of the match performance in their 2-2 draw with Japan. The centre-back netted in the meeting with Japan, while five tackles, four clearances and five aerial duels won was enough to return a WhoScored rating of 8.53.
Centre-back: Yordan Osorio (Venezuela) - 7.87 rating
Partnering Gimenez at the back, Brazil may have been unlucky to have three goals ruled out against Venezuela, but they still defended astutely, with 25-year-old centre-back Yordan Osorio particularly solid. He made more clearances against Brazil (11) than any other player has managed in a Copa America match this summer.
Left-back: Filipe Luis (Brazil) - 7.31 rating
On the opposite flank to Alves is compatriot Filipe Luis, and like the right-back; his Atletico counterpart huffed and puffed but was unable to blow Venezuela down. Indeed, the left-back made two key passes in the stalemate, and remained defensively sound as he made five tackles and one interception.
Right midfield: Koji Miyoshi (Japan) - 8.29 rating
Like Kawashima, Koji Miyoshi putting in a fine showing in Japan’s 2-2 draw with Uruguay. The winger twice put Japan ahead, hitting the back of the net with two of four shots in the stalemate, while two successful dribbles and one key pass helped land a WhoScored rating of 8.29.
Central midfield: Jefferson Farfan (Peru) - 8.71 rating
Our player of the round with a WhoScored rating of 8.71, Jefferson Farfan proved age is but a number as Peru secured a 3-1 win over Bolivia. The 34-year-old hit the back of the net with one of five shots and provided an assist from one of three key passes to cap a fine individual showing.
Central midfield: Rodrigo Bentancur (Uruguay) - 8.20 rating
Joining Farfan in the middle of the park is Uruguay Rodrigo Bentancur, who was excellent in the 2-2 draw with Japan. The Juventus youngster made more tackles (6) than any other player in the second round of Copa America fixtures to help gain a WhoScored rating of 8.20.
Left midfield: James Rodriguez (Colombia) - 8.47 rating
Colombia’s sole representative in this XI comes in the form of James Rodriguez. The Colombian attacker made a competition record eight key passes in their narrow 1-0 win over Qatar as he provided his second assist in as many Copa America matches having teed up Duvan Zapata to return a WhoScored rating of 8.47.
Striker: Luis Suarez (Uruguay) - 8.05 rating
The third and final Uruguay player to make the grade, Luis Suarez mustered 11 shots in their 2-2 draw with Japan, a record in a Copa America match this summer, as he netted his second goal of the competition in the encounter.
Striker: Paulo Guerrero (Peru) - 8.51 rating
Like compatriot Farfan, Paulo Guerrero showed the young guns how to do things as he returned a WhoScored rating of 8.51 against Bolivia. The experienced forward netted in the 3-1 victory over Bolivia and chipped in with returns of three shots, six aerial duels won, three successful dribbles and two key passes.
