Ronaldo misses out spot in Coppa Italia semi-final best XI
After a lengthy break between legs in the Coppa Italia due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the final is set. Juventus will take on Napoli next week after easing past AC Milan and Inter, respectively, to book their trip to Rome.
Here, WhoScored.com take a look at their best XI from both legs with one big name star missing out...
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan) - 7.75 rating
Try as he did, making 10 saves across the two legs, Gianluigi Donnarumma's heroics between the sticks wasn't enough to help AC Milan to the Coppa Italia final. One of those was to deny Cristiano Ronaldo from the spot in Friday's 0-0 draw and his solid showings edged out Gianluigi Buffon in this XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.75
Right-back: Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli) - 6.70 rating
Without a huge pool of right-back options, Napoli's Giovanni Di Lorenzo occupies the right-back berth in the Coppa Italia semi-final best XI. The defender provided the key assist for Fabian Ruiz's winner in the first leg, that one of only two key passes across Napoli's two meetings with Inter, while four tackles in all contributed to a WhoScored rating of 6.70.
Centre-back: Nikola Maksimovic (Napoli) - 7.43 rating
The second of four Napoli representatives, Nikola Maksimovic impressed at the heart of the defence, first alongside Kostas Manolas in the first leg, then partnering Kalidou Koulibaly on Saturday night. The centre-back yielded a WhoScored rating of 7.43 from the two encounters as he won five aerial duels and made a whopping 20 clearances to help the Partenopei to next week's final.
Centre-back: Simon Kjaer (AC Milan) - 6.97 rating
The second of three AC Milan players partners Maksimovic at the heart of the defence. Simon Kjaer was solid alongside Alessio Romagnoli despite their eventual semi-final exit at the hands of Juventus. Totals of nine clearances and two tackes sees the Dane make the cut with a WhoScored rating of 6.97.
Left-back: Alex Sandro (Juventus) - 7.19 rating
The first Juventus player to feature, Alex Sandro was the stand out left-back across the two legs, as noted in his WhoScored rating of 7.19. The Brazilian pushed forward well from left-back, completing five dribbles across both matches, and was unfortunate not to grab an assist having created three goalscoring opportunities.
Central midfield: Fabian Ruiz (Napoli) - 7.35 rating
The star man from Napoli's first leg 1-0 win over Inter, Fabian Ruiz scored what proved to be a decisive goal at San Siro, that coming from one of only two shots during the two legs. The Spaniard started the second leg stalemate on the bench, but did enough across both matches to return a WhoScored rating of 7.35.
Central midfield: Rodrigo Bentancur (Juventus) - 7.14 rating
Rodrigo Bentancur may have only featured for the last half hour of Juventus' 1-1 first leg draw with AC Milan, but Maurizio Sarri brought the Uruguayan into the starting XI for the second leg and he did not disappoint. The 22-year-old found a teammate with 48 of his 51 passes (94.1%) on Friday night, while eight tackles in total saw saw him garner an average rating of 7.14.
Central midfield: Christian Eriksen (Inter) - 6.91 rating
The only Inter player to make this XI, Christian Eriksen scored direct from a corner on Saturday night to give Antonio Conte's side the lead in Naples and while it wasn't enough to progress to the final, the Danish midfielder makes this Coppa Italia side with a WhoScored rating of 6.91.
Right wing: Paulo Dybala (Juventus) - 8.21 rating
With a WhoScored rating of 8.21, Paulo Dybala is the WhoScored player of the round in the Coppa Italia. The Argentine was exceptional in the first leg, as he earned the WhoScored man of the match award having completed seven dribbles and created five goalscoring chances in the 1-1 draw back in February, and he followed that up with three dribbles and five key passes on Friday to help himself to such a fine average rating.
Striker: Dries Mertens (Napoli) - 7.15 rating
Rounding off the Napoli contingent is their club-record goalscorer Dries Mertens. The Belgian's first half equaliser brought up his 122nd Napoli goal, surpassing Marek Hamsik for the Naples side, and ensured their place in the Coppa Italia final. All in all, Mertens mustered seven shots across the two legs to help him to a WhoScored rating of 7.15.
Left wing: Hakan Calhanoglu (AC Milan) - 6.88 rating
The final player in this XI, Hakan Calhanoglu may have been unable to help AC Milan past Juventus, yet it wasn't for want of trying. The Turkey international created two goalscoring chances and mustered five shots, but it wasn't to be AC Milan and Calhanoglu, who gained a WhoScored rating of 6.88 to round off this team.
