Youth Watch: Crystal Palace hero Adam Wharton among Europe's top teens

 

WhoScored runs through the 10 best performing teenagers across the continent from the weekend's action, with rising stars from Feyenoord, Borussia Dortmund, Metz, Rennes and Bayern Munich among those to feature. 

 

10. Yankuba Minteh (Feyenoord) - 7.16 vs Fortuna Sittard 

 

Having returned a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in Feyenoord's resounding win over Ajax, Yankuba Minteh was unable to contribute to a goal in their 1-0 win over Fortuna Sittard but it wasn't for want of trying as the on-loan winger fired off three shots. An additional three dribbles saw Minteh return a WhoScored rating of 7.16. 

 

9. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.17 vs Gladbach 

 

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens gave the Gladbach backline a torrid time on a rare Dortmund start over the weekend. The young wideman completed seven dribbles before coming off in the 54th minute with a WhoScored rating of 7.17. 

 

8. Dario Essugo (Chaves) - 7.24 vs Estoril 

 

Dario Essugo was key as Chaves claimed a narrow 1-0 win at Estoril over the weekend. Indeed, the teenage midfielder made five clearances, one tackle and one interception on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.24. 

 

7. Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) - 7.47 vs Liverpool 

 

Adam Wharton has slotted in seamlessly at Crystal Palace following his January arrival with his best performance to date coming in the 1-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday. The 19-year-old was excellent off the ball for the Eagles as he made six tackles, five clearances and one interception to keep the Reds offensive at bay.

6. Cristhian Mosquera (Valencia) - 7.50 vs Osasuna 

 

While Ante Budimir's hilarious penalty miss was the main talking point from Valencia's 1-0 win at Osasuna on Monday night, Cristhian Mosquera put in another solid shift at the heart of the Los Che backline. The centre-back made four tackles, three interceptions and three clearances in a clean-sheet attaining display. 

 

5. Gustavo Sa (Famalicao) - 7.65 vs Porto 

 

Gustavo Sa registered his fourth assist of the season as Famalicao sprung an upset at Porto over the weekend. That assist came from one of two key passes, while an additional three dribbles saw Sa yield a WhoScored rating of 7.65. 

 

4. Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich) - 7.73 vs FC Koeln 

 

On just his second league start of the season, Mathys Tel was unfortunate not to add to his five Bundesliga goals having fired off four shots in Bayern's 2-0 win over FC Koeln, striking the woodwork with one. The Frenchman also completed two dribbles and made two interceptions in return a WhoScored rating of 7.73. 

 

3. Brajan Gruda (Mainz 05) - 7.95 vs Hoffenheim 

 

Brajan Gruda scored for the second game running as Mainz 05 smashed Hoffenheim 4-1 on home turf on Saturday. The German teen struck with his only shot and he was unfortunate not to add an assist having made three key passes. 

 

2. Papa Diallo (Metz) - 7.98 vs Lens 

 

Papa Diallo put in a solid showing as Metz claimed an important three points at the weekend. While he didn't get on the scoresheet, Diallo won eight aerial duels, completed three dribbles and made two key passes to boost Metz's survival hopes. 

 

1. Desire Doue (Rennes) - 8.21 vs Toulouse 

 

While Desire Doue ended the weekend on the losing side, the Rennes youngster impressed in their 2-1 loss to Toulouse. The 18-year-old netted his fourth league goal of the campaign in the defeat, striking with one of four shots, while he also completed seven dribbles and was fouled six times to return a WhoScored rating of 8.21.
