Arsenal vs West Ham player ratings: Lacazette the difference in London derby

Arsenal made it 10 wins in their last 11 home games against West Ham as they left it late to make the breakthrough and extend their Premier League unbeaten streak to eight games. 

Arsenal: 7.06 

Bernd Leno – 8.2: Great day at the office for the German, making a total of six saves. Looked a little lost at sea with balls into the box, but did make a good save to stop West Ham grabbing the opener. Man of the match performance and key to Arsenal playing out from the back.  

Sokratis – 7.2: Great chance to open the scoring from a lovely floated ball from Aubameyang, but crashed his effort against the post. Booked for a challenge on the hour mark. Five aerial duels won for the makeshift right-back.  

David Luiz – 7.3: Clumsy mistake just before half time, shouldering the ball behind for a corner when Leno could have collected easily. Had 91% passing completion in an otherwise tidy performance.  

Pablo Mari – 7.2: Confident performance from the defender, who marshalled Arsenal well all game.  

Bukayo Saka – 7.5: Solid afternoon’s work for the wing-back, who wasn’t troubled by West Ham’s attacking core. Four aerial duels won for the defender.  

Dani Ceballos – 8.1: Ran the show early on, linking defence and attack very nicely. five tackles for the midfielder and was clearly Arsenal’s top outfield performer.   

Granit Xhaka – 6.7: Long-range effort in the 7th minute ended up in row Z. Wasteful in possession at the start of the second half, blazing a cross-field ball behind for a goal kick.  

Nicolas Pepe – 6.4: Frustrating afternoon for the winger, as his final ball left a lot to desired. Subbed off for Reiss Nelson.  

Mesut Ozil – 7.3: Linked play well for the majority of the game, without having a significant impact until the dying embers of the win. Lovely pull back for Lacazette resulted in the opener. Subbed off to a round of applause in the 87th minute.  

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 7.0: Kept quiet in the first half-hour and struggled to make an impact, except from one lovely lofted ball into the box. Contained well by West Ham, and couldn’t get involved from the left-wing.  

Eddie Nketiah – 6.3: Number of chances early on, although handed it on a plate to Fabianski in the 13th minute. Another great opportunity just two minutes later, but failed to convert. Had a huge penalty appeal in the 45th minute and was subbed off in the 58th minute for Lacazette. 

Subs:  

Alexandre Lacazette – 7.1: Replaced Nketiah with half an hour to go. Scored the opener after a lengthy VAR check. Tidy finish from the Frenchman, who latched onto Ozil’s clever cutback. 

Reiss Nelson – 6.4: On for Pepe towards the end of the second half. Linked play well without producing anything of real note.  

Hector Bellerin – 6.1: Brought on for the last five minutes. Great tackle as West Ham were breaking in added time, in a potential match-winning challenge. 

West Ham: 6.49 

Lukasz Fabianski – 6.2: Great stop from Nketiah on the 52nd minute, from what looked like an easy finish. Was let down by defenders for the Arsenal winner. Only had to make one save apart from the goal.  

Jeremy Ngakia – 6.4: Marshalled Aubameyang well early doors, with the forward struggling to make an impact from the left-wing. Made two successful challenges.  

Issa Diop – 7.5: Was part of an impressive centre-back pairing, who let themselves down right at the end with the Lacazette winner. Four aerial duels won and two tackles successfully made.  

Angelo Ogbonna – 6.4: See above, but on a slightly lower scale. Commanding for the vast majority of the game, but was let down right at the death.  

Aaron Cresswell – 6.5: Controlled the left-back area of the pitch well, without being able to get forward and provide an overlap. 63% of his passes were accurate.  

Declan Rice – 6.8: Last-ditch challenge on Pepe possibly preventing Arsenal’s opener in the 36th minute. Blazed over the bar from around 20 yards with 20 minutes left to play. One of the better outfield players for the Hammers.  

Mark Noble – 6.4: Tidy performance in midfield, if a little tiresome. Fascinating head-to-head with Granit Xhaka. Four corners taken by the Englishmen did not test Leno in goal.  

Jarrod Bowen – 6.9: Looked tidy in possession, although was left nullified by Arsenal’s midfield. Was only dispossessed once.  

Pablo Fornals – 6.4: Booked in the 8th minute after a cynical challenge on Pepe. Looked like West Ham’s most creative player on the pitch. West Ham’s most attacking threat, considerably. Had four shots, two of which were on target, the most of any player on the pitch.  

Michail Antonio – 6.3: Golden opportunity after just 10 minutes, but failed to square it to the waiting Haller for an open goal. Another chance to open the scoring just before half time, but couldn’t direct his shot on target. Two successful dribbles completed.  

Sebastien Haller – 7.0: Out of position for the Antonio cut back, although his teammate should have had more quality. Won a staggering eight aerial duels.  

Subs: 

Robert Snodgrass – 6.0: Brought on too late to make an impact from David Moyes, after being substituted in the 90th minute.  

Tomas Soucek – 6.0: Failed to make any kind of impact from the bench.  

Felipe Anderson – 6.0: Another of Moyes’ substitutions that failed to get involved in the game. Passing completion percentage of just 25%.
