Championship round-up: Birmingham star features in attack after downing Leeds

Reading landed just their second league win of the season with a 3-0 win over Hull City over the weekend, with 26-year-old full-back Andy Yiadom the star man in the performance and in gameweek nine of the Championship campaign. Indeed, the Ghanian scored one and assisted another to help the Royals to a vital three points at the Madjeski Stadium. 

His goal came from a solitary shot, while his assist came from his only key pass of the game. Two tackles and two interceptions helped Yiadom to the WhoScored man of the match award and saw Reading land their first clean sheet of the campaign as they moved two points clear of the relegation zone. Fellow relegation rivals Birmingham could well have been distracted by off-field issues as they travelled to Leeds over the weekend, but the Blues didn’t let up against Marcelo Bielsa’s side. 

Leeds have earned plenty of admirers, yet saw their unbeaten start to the campaign come to an abrupt end as a Che Adams brace saw Birmingham come away from Elland Road with all the spoils as Garry Monk oversaw Birmingham’s first league win of the campaign. Adams’ two goals came from two shots, while three successful dribbles helped the forward to the WhoScored man of the match award. 

Rounding off the top three best performers from the Championship this week is Blackburn Rovers star Bradley Dack. The 24-year-old doesn’t look out of his depth at this level as he scored one and assisted another in a 3-2 win at Stoke. Dack’s goal came from his sole shot in the victory, and his assist from his only key pass in the game. An additional two successful dribbles saw the Rovers ace land a WhoScored.com rating of 8.52, enough to podium in gameweek nine’s best-rated players. 

Conversely, it was a week to forget for Preston goalkeeper Chris Maxwell. Alex Neil’s side have started the season poorly and a defeat that saw the Welsh shotstopper fail to make a save or a cross claim didn’t help in a 3-2 loss at Sheffield United. Indeed, it saw Maxwell return a WhoScored rating of just 5.30, the worst in England’s second tier this weekend.
