Kane leads Premier League team of the month dominated by Man Utd
Manchester United are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the month for April after picking up 10 points from their four matches as three United stars make the XI. Players from Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham also make the cut, while relegation threatened pair West Brom and Burnley have two representatives.
Sam Johnstone (West Brom) - 7.43
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is the first of two West Brom representatives to make the Premier League team of the month. The Baggies shotstopper was the busiest in the division in April as he made more saves (22) than any other player, and it helped his side to seven points from four games to boost West Brom's survival hopes and secure Johnstone a spot between the sticks with a WhoScored rating of 7.43.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.64
Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to have rediscovered his best attacking form to nail down a spot in the Premier League team of the month with a WhoScored rating of 7.64. The Liverpool star created the third most goalscoring chances (11) in April and that translated to two assists. Meanwhile, no player created more clear-cut opportunities than Alexander-Arnold (3) to feature in this side.
James Tarkowski (Burnley) - 7.49
Burnley have two players make the Premier League team of the month despite a disappointing April. James Tarkowski may have featured in a Clarets side that lost three of four matches, but the centre-back excelled no less. Indeed, he won more aerial duels (23) than any other defence to contribute towards his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.49.
Partnering Tarkowski at the heart of the defence is Leeds man Diego Llorente. The summer arrival has endured his injury issues upon his signing from Real Sociedad, but he impressed in April for a Whites side that shipped just three goals last month; no team shipped fewer. Llorente bagged his first league goal of the campaign in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, while only Wesley Fofana (12) made more tackles than the 27-year-old (10) of centre-backs to help the Leeds defender to a WhoScored rating of 7.17.
Luke Shaw (Manchester United) - 7.44
Rounding off the defence is the first of three Manchester United players to make the cut. Luke Shaw again showcased his attacking quality as he made more key passes (14) than any other Premier League player in April and he would have added to his five assists had his teammates sported their shooting boots. Shaw also completed more dribbles (11) than any other defender as the left-back yielded a WhoScored rating of 7.44.
Mason Greenwood (Manchester United) - 7.69
Of the seven league goals Mason Greenwood has contributed to this season, four came in April as the teenager struck three times and provided one assist for Manchester United last month. Greenwood's first man of the match gong of 2020/21 was also awarded in April as he bagged a brace in a 3-1 win over Burnley as the 19-year-old features out wide with a WhoScored rating of 7.69.
Matheus Pereira (West Brom) - 8.03
West Brom scored more goals (10) than any other Premier League side last month, with Matheus Pereira having a direct hand in six of those. The Brazilian put in a man of the match display in the Baggies' memorable 5-2 win at Chelsea to kick off the month and ended April with a star man showing in a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa. The Baggies sensation was one three players to win multiple man of the match awards as Pereira returned a WhoScored rating of 8.03 in April.
Joining Pereira in the middle of the park with a WhoScored rating of 7.63 is Chelsea star Mason Mount. The Blues man notched his fifth league assist of the campaign in April, providing for Kurt Zouma in the west London side's 4-1 win at Crystal Palace. In all, two of Mount's seven best rated appearanes of the season came in April to contribute towards his inclusion in this side.
Paul Pogba (Manchester United) - 7.63
The third and final Manchester United player to feature in the Premier League team of the month is midfielder Paul Pogba. All three assists in the Frenchman has registered this season came in April - no player made more - as he turned provider for key goals in wins over Brighton, Tottenham and Burnley. Only two players completed more dribbles than Pogba (13) last month and his good form in April means he rounds off the midfield with a WhoScored rating of 7.63.
With a WhoScored rating of 8.05, Tottenham striker Harry Kane is our Premier League player of the month for April. No player scored more goals than Kane (4) last month as he hit the back of the net with 26.7% of his efforts on goal. Like Pereira, the Spurs star was one of three players to land multiple man of the match awards to cap another fine month.
Finishing the XI is Burnley hitman Chris Wood. The New Zealand international had a direct hand in more goals (7 - 4 goals, 3 assists) as he scored or assisted in all but one of his four outings in April. Wood also became the first ever Burnley player to yield a perfect WhoScored 10 rating after a stunning showing against Wolves as he partners Kane on the frontline with a rating of 7.80.
