Buabook 101: How to Trade in Season and Match Markets

While Liverpool’s meeting with Chelsea may well be the glamour tie of the night, there’s little doubt as to the most important match on Wednesday.

Following Newcastle’s failure to beat Aston Villa at the weekend and their own comeback victory over Chelsea, Sunderland can secure survival with a win over an Everton side praying for the season to end, and with it condemn both Norwich and Newcastle to the Championship.

With tonight’s game in mind, here we’ll offer some advice about how to best play the markets at Buabook, the first player trading platform. Sign up and you can win real cash by buying and selling shares in the players that you expect to perform well or poorly, with each player gaining or losing value based on their statistics.

For example, a midfielder will earn £0.01 for every pass he completes but lose £0.04 every time he misplaces a pass. Ross Barkley, who should line up for the Toffees at the Stadium of Light, has completed 1,505 passes this season (totalling £15.05) and misplaced 244 (costing him £9.76), giving him a profit of £5.29 over the season for his passing statistics alone.

Factor in the fact that Barkley also has 8 goals (each worth £1.00) and 8 assists (each worth £0.60), and the England international’s current fair price (total earnings) in the Buabook’s season market sits at £11.43. Had you been able to buy shares in the youngster at the beginning of the season at £5.00 and not opted to cash out - having ended last season with a very modest season fair price of £4.03 - you would currently hold a profit of £6.43 per share, with ten shares at that price amounting to a very handsome £64.30 return.

Moreover, with Buabook’s leveraged trading you only place 20% of the price down initially (this is called margin), so ten shares in Barkley at £5.00 would only have set you back £10.00 from your account. That allows you to make more trades with your money, though you need to trade wisely as it does mean that if multiple trades fail you could lose more than you deposit.

However, while the season market can be the place to make the biggest profits, you can also make significant money in Buabook’s individual match markets, and so late in the campaign this is what you should be exploiting. With the market for a game opening 15 minutes before kick-off, it’s best to follow the stats live to ensure you get the best prices, ideally keeping track of the game whilst you watch on your mobile, tablet or laptop.

While you can often find tempting prices before kick-off, be it buying or selling players, it’s also beneficial to trade in-play, gauging the pattern of the game and the momentum. For example, when West Ham went behind in last night’s final game at the Boleyn Ground they were always likely to throw everything at United. While you would do well to have predicted goals from Antonio or Reid, selling shares in defenders for the visitors could have made you a profit, with each goal conceded setting a defender back £0.20.

Ahead of tonight’s match on Wearside then, it seems wise to bank on a Sunderland side so much more motivated than Everton, who are in terrible form. The visitors' star man Lukaku hasn’t found the back of the net in 8 games and if you think he’ll fire another blank the chances are you could get a sell price in the region of £0.60 before kick-off. Having settled at a price of £0.00 in each of his last 8 games (actually ending each game with negative earnings, which always settle at £0.00 in the match market), if he did so again you would make a £0.60 profit on each share.

Meanwhile, a good tip for an in-play trade would be Jermain Defoe, who is in fine form and netted his 15th league goal of the season at the weekend. However, there is an interesting pattern to Defoe’s scoring that’s worth considering here, with his goal against Chelsea the 10th he has scored in the final 30 minutes of matches this season - only Jamie Vardy (13) has scored more after the 60 minute mark.

While the Sunderland marksman will no doubt be the most bought player for the hosts before the game, likely to trade at a similar price to Lukaku, if he fails to score in the first half then his buy price will drop significantly. Defoe has scored just 3 first half goals this season, so I would hold out to see if he notches before the hour mark and snap up shares if he hasn’t, which I would predict to fall around the £0.30 mark. For example, should the experienced striker go on to find the net late on and settle at £1.00 (the price of a goal) you would make a £0.70 profit on each share.

If you could snap up 20 shares at just £0.30, your margin would be just £1.20 and a £0.70 profit on each share would herald a £14.00 return. That’s almost 12 times your initial 20% stake.

Beware, trading with Buabook will have you bemoaning every time a player misplaces a pass, but it’s worth it! Add extra excitement to your viewing experience and give yourself the chance to make handsome profits in the process, starting with tonight’s game at the Stadium of Light.
