Chelsea and Man City represented in Champions League Team of the Week
Here we run through the Champions League team of the week for matchday three.
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) - 8.03 rating
Real Madrid racked up a massive 5-0 win away to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday but they Thibaut Courtois still earned his clean sheet with four saves.
Right-back: Mattia De Sciglio (Juventus) - 8.02 rating
Juventus picked up their fourth 1-0 win in a row, this time defeating Zenit away from home on Wednesday. Mattia De Sciglio claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award after assisting Dejan Kulusevski late on for the winner. The Italian right-back registered three key passes in total; impressive completed 95.6% of his attempted passes and made four tackles and interceptions combined.
Centre-back: Sebastian Coates (Sporting) - 8.63 rating
Sporting impressively ran out 4-1 winners away to Besiktas on Tuesday, with former Liverpool centre-back Sebastian Coates proving an unlikely source of goals for the Portuguese side. Coates scored a first-half brace to help Sporting on their way to three points in Group C. The 31-year-old also made five tackles and interceptions combined and three clearances to help keep Besiktas out.
Centre-back: Gerard Pique (Barcelona) - 8.47 rating
After back-to-back defeats in the Champions League, Barcelona picked up a much-needed win at home to Dynamo Kyiv in midweek with Gerard Pique scoring the only goal of the game. Pique won six aerial duels, made four clearances and completed two interceptions to ensure Barcelona kept a clean sheet.
Left-back: Daley Blind (Ajax) - 9.24 rating
Ajax ran out shock 4-0 winners at home to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, with Daley Blind flourishing from left-back for the Dutch giants. Blind scored one and assisted another in the rout, as well as chipping in with four tackles and interceptions combined to help Ajax shut Dortmund out.
Right wing: Riyad Mahrez (Man City) - 9.04 rating
Riyad Mahrez made it three goals in as many appearances in the Champions League this season with a brace in Manchester City's 5-1 win over Club Bruge on Tuesday. Mahrez had five shots in total and registered two key passes. The 30-year-old also made three tackles and interceptions combined.
Central midfield: Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich) - 9.58 rating
Deployed centrally away to Benfica, Leroy Sane took upon his new role like duck to water. The Germany international played a direct hand in three of Bayern Munich's four goals, scoring twice and registering one assist. Sane had six attempts on goal in total, registered three key passes and completed two dribbles.
Central midfield: Jorginho (Chelsea) - 9.03 rating
Jorginho cooly dispatched two penalties in Chelsea's routine 4-0 win over Malmoe on Wednesday and was the heartbeat of their performance at Stamford Bridge with over 100 touches of the ball. The Italian weighed in with 11 tackles and interceptions combined, only on one occasion has someone managed more in a Champions League game this season.
Left wing: Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) - 9.72 rating
Vinicius Junior claims our Champions League Player of the Week award after yet another dazzling performance this season. The Real Madrid starlet scored twice and registered one assist in Madrid's 5-0 mauling of Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek. Vinicius hit the target with three of his six shots, registered four key passes and completed two dribbles. The 21-year-old also chipped in with two tackles.
Striker: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) - 9.62 rating
Karim Benzema's superb season continued in midweek with the Frenchman scoring for a fifth game in a row for club and country. Benzema scored once and registered one assist in Madrid's win over Shakhtar, just falling short behind team-mate Vinicius for our player of the week award. Benzema completed four dribbles against Shakhtar, while also firing off seven shots and registering two key passes.
Striker: Paulinho (Sporting) - 9.47 rating
Paulinho was guilty of missing a couple of good chances against Besiktas before putting away the most difficult one of the lot to make it 4-1 to Sporting. Twice denied by the woodwork, Paulinho also turned creator for another of Sporting's goals.
