Serie A round-up: Argentine gears up for midweek matches with star showing

Udinese piled further misery upon a downtrodden Chievo side at the weekend as they landed a 2-0 win in Verona. It marked what has been a solid start to the campaign for Udinese, who after the win over Chievo, now have eight points to their name an they gear up for the midweek welcome of Lazio.

Argentine attacker Rodrigo De Paul was the star man in the Serie A team of the week this week, with the 24-year-old having a direct hand in each of Udinese’s goals against Chievo. De Paul scored one from one shot on goal and assisted another from three key passes. He was a thorn on the side of the Chievo defence over the 90 minutes, too, having completed seven dribbles in the victory and worked hard out of possession as he made two tackles.

While De Paul warmed up for the meeting with Lazio nicely, so too did Lazio star Ciro Immobile. The Italian had endured something of a barren run prior to the weekend, but was on song to net twice in a 4-1 win over Genoa. Immobile’s brace came from five shots on goal in the resounding victory, while returns of three key passes and two successful dribbles saw the Italy international come away with a WhoScored rating of 9.28.

Rounding off the top three top performers in Serie A this week is Bologna shotstopper Lukasz Skorupski as a solid rearguard performance helped them to a first league win of the campaign, against Roma no less. The capital outfit may have dominated proceedings, but Skorupski was in inspired form as he made eight saves and one successful cross claim to gain a WhoScored rating of 9.03 to feature between the sticks in our Serie A team of the week.

While the trio enjoyed a weekend to remember, Torino midfielder Emiliano Moretti endured one to forget in a hapless performance in a 3-1 home defeat to Napoli. The 37-year-old was part of a three-man defence that shipped three, with Moretti at fault for Lorenzo Insigne’s early opener. Things didn’t get any better for the experienced defender as the match went on as he failed to make a tackle or interception, nor did he win an aerial duel, as he gained a WhoScored rating of just 4.82.
