La Liga round-up: Goalkeeping pair excel in gameweek 7

It’s rare for both Barcelona and Real Madrid to drop points in the same week, but it’s happened twice in the space of four days in La Liga as the pair were held to draws by both Athletic Club and Atletico Madrid after respective midweek defeats at the hands of Leganes and Sevilla.

It’s a former Barcelona player, in fact, who is the top rated player in La Liga in gameweek seven after goalkeeper Jordi Masip’s heroics in Real Valladolid’s 1-0 win at Villarreal. The Shotstopper secured a WhoScored rating of 8.98 at the Ceramica after making seven saves in the victory, including a late penalty stop to deny Gerard Moreno in an inspired showing.

Masip’s performance meant Neto was unable to force his way into the La Liga team of the week, despite his man of the match display in Valencia’s 1-0 win at Real Sociedad. The Brazilian landed a WhoScored rating of 8.74 in the victory, with Neto on hand to make five saves, including a penalty stop to deny Willian Jose midway through the second half.

Rounding off the top three, Sevilla ace Ever Banega has been in fine form in recent weeks and maintain his solid displays with an impressive showing in a 3-1 win at Eibar. The Argentine bagged a brace from two shots in the victory, while returns of four tackles and two successful dribbles saw the midfielder come away with the WhoScored man of the match award with a 8.58 rating.

At the bottom of the rating table is Getafe’s David Soria. The goalkeeper committed a first half error that resulted in Maxi Gomez’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo as he went on to make just one save in the stalemate as he returned a WhoScored rating of 4.99.
