The sensational stats of Bayern’s wonderkid in waiting

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the Bundesliga champions are set to sign Vancouver Whitecaps youngster Alphonso Davies.

Never heard of him? Well he is only 17, but when he does eventually join the German giants in January, the teenager will certainly be one to watch.

The bright hope for the future of the Canadian national team, who to now can perhaps turn to Besiktas star Atiba Hutchinson as their best player, Davies is already tipped to become The Canucks’ greatest ever talent.

First capped at just 16 years of age, the winger became the youngest ever scorer at the Gold Cup this time last year, netting three times in total at the tournament to win the Golden Boot award and be named in the Best XI.

Since then he has become a first team regular for the Whitecaps, starting 17 of 20 MLS appearances this season, scoring three times and registering six assists.

It’s his pace and trickery that will have really caught the eye of a number of Europe’s top clubs, however, and Bayern are keen to look for long-term alternatives to long-standing wing wizards Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Davies has completed a whopping 5.4 dribbles per 90 minutes this season, and the most in MLS in total (90) at an impressive 68.7 per cent success rate.

He doesn’t shirk his defensive responsibility either, making more tackles (46) than any teammate this season and, having had a direct hand in a goal every 168 minutes thus far, is not only the Caps’ highest rated player but ranks seventh in MLS with a superb score of 7.56.

The Canadian equivalent of Christian Pulisic in terms of carrying the hopes of a nation on his young shoulders ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America, Davies will join the US international in the Bundesliga and we could see the young pair facing off in a Klassiker before long…
