Form Guide

2021 has been an unhappy year for Everton, especially at home. Only rivals Liverpool (1) have earned fewer home points on home turf than the Toffees (4) this year and they'll hope a change in competition will provide a welcome boost in their bid to turn their fortunes around. Three of their last four wins at Goodison Park have come at Goodison Park, but they were taken to extra time in victories over Rotherham and Tottenham.

Manchester United are the only side to have stopped Manchester City since mid-December. A 2-0 win over Gladbach in midweek was their 24th in their last 25 competitive matches, with United the only side to deny City all three points in that run, a streak that includes a 3-1 win at Everton last month. Their only away defeat this season came in a 2-0 loss at Tottenham in November, a result that kickstarted City's exceptional run.

Team News

Carlo Ancelotti has a selection dilemma between the sticks. With Jordan Pickford and Robin Olsen both ruled out, youngster joao Virginia a set to start for the Toffees, making just his third appearance for the club in the process. Elsewhere, James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Fabian Delph join the duo on the sidelines.

Once again, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has a full compliement of players to select from. Ahead of the international break, Guardiola may elect to rotate, which will see some fringe players handed an opportunity to impress. Zack Steffen has started all three FA Cup games this season and is expected to deputise for Ederson between the sticks, while Eric Garcia is another who should come in. Sergio Aguero is in line to make just his sixth competitive start of the season at Goodison Park and he'll be aiming to build on a record of just three goals in 16 meetings with the Toffees.

Key Battle: Lucas Digne vs Joao Cancelo

FA Cup team news and prediction: Everton vs Man City

As things stand, Joao Cancelo (7.37) occupies in the left-back spot in the Premier League team of the season so far, with Lucas Digne (7.06) looking to usurp the Portugal international in the selection. Digne is once again proving one of the best attacking full-backs in England, with only Aaron Cresswell (7) providing more assists than the Frenchman (6) of all defenders in England's top tier this term.

Cancelo, though, is one of City's most consistent performers across all competitions in 2020/21, putting a indifferent debut campaign behind him to render himself a first team regular under Guardiola. It remains to be seen if he will start this FA Cup tie - Guardiola may elect for a full-back pairing of Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy - but Cancelo made a fine impact off the bench at Cheltenham earlier in the competition and he could be called upon here if the going gets tough on Merseyside.

Score Prediction: Everton 1-3 Manchester City
