Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton represented in Premier League Team of the Month

The only teams to make a 100% start to the season - Everton, Leicester, Liverpool and Aston Villa - all have at least one player in the WhoScored Premier League team of the month for September, while Chelsea and Manchester City are both represented in the best XI. 

Here, we run through the first team of the month from the 2020/21 season... 

Karl Darlow (Newcastle) - 7.55 

Karl Darlow has stepped up to cover for Martin Dubravka between the sticks for Newcastle exceptionally as his WhoScored rating (7.55) suggests. The Magpies shotstopper made more saves (17) than any other goalkeeper in September, including 11 in a man of the match performance in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Tottenham. In all, Darlow enjoyed a fine September to kick off the first Premier League team of the month for 2020/21. 

Reece James (Chelsea) - 7.65 

Occupying the right-back spot is the sole Chelsea representative in the team of the month. Reece James scored his first ever Premier League goal in September, finding the top corner from distance in the 3-1 win over Brighton. James also provided an assist in the opening month of the campaign, picking out Kurt Zouma in the same game, while his seven key passes from open play was among the better returns as the 20-year-old returned a WhoScored rating of 7.65. 

Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) - 8.01 

Ezri Konsa is the first of two Aston Villa players to feature in the Premier League team of the month as the Villans kept two clean sheets from their two opening games of the season, securing wins over Sheffield United and Fulham. Konsa bagged the decisive goal against the former and put in a solid rearguard showing in the victory over the latter, making 14 clearances in all to secure a place here. 

Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa) - 8.15 

Partnering Konsa in defence is his Villa teammate Tyrone Mings. The England international provided the assist for Konsa's goal in the win over Sheffield United and then notched his first goal of the campaign against Fulham. Mings made a total of 15 clearances, that the sixth best return, as Villa were the only Premier League side in September that did not concede a goal. 

Arthur Masuaku (West Ham) - 7.68 

Rounding off the backline, Arthur Masuaku sat out the opening weekend 2-0 defeat to Newcastle before returning to the West Ham starting XI for meetings with Arsenal and Wolves. He excelled against the latter, registering his first assist of the season for Sebastien Haller late on, as he made five key passes and completed six dribbles in September to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 7.68. 

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 8.08 

Four players have scored a Premier League hat-trick this season, with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah bagging the first of the campaign in the Reds' entertaining 4-3 win over Leeds. Liverpool are one of four teams to kick off 2020/21 with a 100% record with Salah key once more for the defending champions as his WhoScored rating (8.08) suggests. The 28-year-old may not have an assist to his name yet, but it's not for want of trying with Salah making more key passes (11) than any other player in September. 

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 7.82 

Manchester City's quest to wrestle the title back from Liverpool has already suffered an early blip having fallen to a 5-2 loss to Leicester last weekend. Yet Kevin De Bruyne continues to pull the strings in the City midfield with the Belgian scoring one and assisting another, both coming in the 3-1 win over Wolves, in 2020/21. Only two players have made more key passes than De Bruyne, six of which came against Wolves, that the joint-record in a Premier League match this season, to feature in midfield with a WhoScored rating of 7.82. 

Dennis Praet (Leicester) - 7.47 

The first of two Leicester players to make the team of the month, and ensuring an all-Belgian central midfield partnership, Dennis Praet took two outings to match his goal return from 2019/20 as he scored his first league goal of the season in Leicetser's 4-2 win over Burnley, a victory in which he was named the WhoScored man of the match. The 29-year-old also picked up an assist in September, teeing up compatriot Timothy Castagne for his first Premier League goal in the win over West Brom, to nail down his spot in this side with a WhoScored rating of 7.47. 

Richarlison (Everton) - 8.37 

Everton have been one of the more entertaining sides to watch in the Premier League this season having won all three league matches in September. Carlo Ancelotti is working his magic at Goodison Park, with Richarlison impressing in the final third. The Brazilian yielded a WhoScored rating of 8.37 across the opening three league games of the season as he scored one and assisted two; only Harry Kane (5) bettered Richarlison's return for the latter. In possession, the 23-year-old has been a dribble machine having completed the second most dribbles (15) in September. 

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) - 8.38 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.38, Dominic Calvert-Lewin pips teammate Richarlison to the Premier League player of the month award. The England hopeful followed up his decisive goal in the 1-0 win at Tottenham on the opening weekend of the campaign with a hat-trick in the 5-2 victory over West Brom before bagging the opener in the 2-1 success at Crystal Palace. All in all, no player scored more goals than Calvert-Lewin (5) in September to star in this XI. 

Jamie Vardy (Leicester) - 8.10 

Level with Calvert-Lewin at the top of the scoring charts, Jamie Vardy scored his second career hat-trick against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in Leicester's 5-2 win at the Etihad Stadium last weekend as the 2019/20 Golden Boot winner outlined his intentions to land the individual award for the second campaign running. Having hit the back of the net with five of his 10 shots on goal, the prolific Vardy was good value for his WhoScored rating of 8.10 in September to partner Calvert-Lewin on the frontline.
