Player Ratings: Spain 1-1 Russia: Akinfeev the hero as hosts win shootout
A run through of the player ratings as hosts Russia dumped Spain out of the World Cup on penalties.
SPAIN - 6.80
David de Gea - 5.07
Couldn’t make a save inside 120 minutes or the penalty shootout despite twice guessing the right way. A tournament to forget for the Manchester United stopper.
Nacho - 6.65
Unspectacular showing from the Real Madrid man with little to do at the back. Completed 95% of his passes.
Gerard Pique - 7.34
Gave away the crucial penalty on an otherwise comfortable afternoon. Won six aerial duels and had three shots at goal. Scored in the shootout.
Sergio Ramos - 7.55
Occupied Ignashevich when the veteran turned the ball into his own net and competed well in a physical battle with Dzyuba. Scored in the shootout.
Jordi Alba - 7.00
Spent much of his time in the final third but struggled to make an impact, suffering with cramp late on.
Koke - 7.28
Misplaced just six of 155 passes over 120 minutes and broke up play with four tackles but dreadful penalty in the shootout.
Sergio Busquets - 7.04
Not at his best, winning five of 11 aerial duels and showing some uncertainty in the middle of the park.
Marco Asensio - 6.83
Replaced Iniesta in the starting lineup but failed to impress and saw very little of the ball given Spain’s dominance of possession, with just 57 touches in 104 minutes.
David Silva - 6.40
Fell well short of the standards set at Manchester City last season, completing just 79% of his passes and failing to create a chance.
Isco - 8.51
Spain’s best performer by a distance, looked to inject some pace into attacks, completing nine dribbles, but was often ahead of his teammates in that regard.
Diego Costa - 6.66
Some good movement but didn’t get the service that he thrives upon, with just 30 touches before being replaced with ten minutes remaining.
Subs: Andres Iniesta (7.02), Dani Carvajal (6.10), Iago Aspas (5.98), Rodrigo (6.56)

RUSSIA - 6.88
Igor Akinfeev - 8.88 (Man of the Match)
The hero for the hosts, Akinfeev made nine saves in 120 minutes and a further two in the shootout to ensure Russia pulled off a huge upset.
Mario Fernandes - 7.37
Had a big task on his hands keeping the likes of Alba and Isco quiet but was strong defensively, winning four aerial duels and two tackles.
Ilya Kutepov - 7.67
Fought valiantly throughout the game and was often in the right place at the right time, despite playing the best part of 45 minutes with cramp.
Sergei Ignashevich - 7.36
Recovered from a moment of madness that resulted in an own goal early on, completing 13 clearances and scoring in the shootout.
Fedor Kudryashov - 6.32
The least involved of the Russian backline, somehow managed just 27 touches in 120 minutes of defensive action.
Yuri Zhirkov - 6.22
Forced off at half time having done little wrong in the opening 45 minutes.
Roman Zobnin - 6.03
Worked very hard but gave away possession frequently as Russia struggled to mount counter attacks, with a 60% pass accuracy. Booked.
Daler Kuzyaev - 6.60
Made a steady first start to the tournament, breaking up play with three tackles and two interceptions before his withdrawal in extra time.
Aleksandr Samedov - 6.42
A relatively anonymous display as Russia spent long periods out of possession. Subbed on the hour.
Aleksandr Golovin - 7.50
Showed again why he is a wanted man, this time through remarkable work ethic and stamina. Despite being the man tasked with supporting Dzyuba he made six tackles and two interceptions.
Artem Dzyuba - 7.56
A real handful for Spain’s centre-backs, which Pique took too literally to allow the target man to convert from the spot.
Subs: Vladimir Grant (6.36), Denis Cheryshev (6.58), Fedor Smolov (6.41), Aleksandr Erokhin (5.90)
