Neymar sets the standard in the September Ligue 1 best XI

Having pumped out our Premier League, Serie A and Bundesliga teams of the month for September, we now move on to Ligue 1, where PSG are leading the charge for the title. The Parisian giants are yet to lose a game this season, picking up 22 points of a possible 24, and it’s their big money summer arrival that once again earned the plaudits for September.

Fresh from being named our Ligue 1 player of the month for August, Neymar did so again last month, with a WhoScored rating of 9.09. The Brazilian was directly involved in five league goals, netting three and providing a further two, and was second for dribbles (13) and top for key passes (14).

A PSG teammate features alongside Neymar in the XI, but neither Edinson Cavani nor Kylian Mbappe. Much was made of Julian Draxler’s future in the capital on the back of Neymar’s arrival, but the German impressed to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.7 with a goal and an assist to his name.

PSG dismantled Bordeaux at the weekend, but it was another successful month for youngster Malcom, who continues to shine. The Brazilian earned a 7.9 with two goals, one assist, 12 dribbles and 10 key passes. Abdoulaye Toure completes the midfield after the Nantes midfielder made 22 tackles and interceptions combined, the third best return in Ligue 1 last month.

Falcao leads the attack having netted five goals in September, more than any other Ligue 1 player, with the Colombian in fine fettle once more. The Monaco star is partnered in attack by the consistently excellent Nabil Fekir, with the Lyon man completing more dribbles (14) than any other player in Ligue 1 in September.

On loan Marseille left-back Jordan Amavi features at left-back after a consistent month on the south coast, where the young defender earned a WhoScored rating of 8.0. Remaining on the south of France, Nice centre-back Maxime Le Marchand makes the cut and is partnered at the back by Nantes’ Brazilian defender Diego Carlos, who earned a WhoScored rating of 8.2.

Ruben Aguilar is at right-back on the back of three consistent showings in September that helped Montpellier five points from a possible nine, including positive results against PSG and Monaco. Lyon shotstopper Anthony Lopes completes the Ligue 1 best XI for September with a WhoScored rating of 7.4, with a league high 13 saves for the month contributing towards his inclusion.
