Odds halved on England hopeful to join Manchester United in January

Bookmakers have unanimously cut odds on James Maddison joining Manchester United in January, Oddschecker have revealed, following a flurry of bets on a prospective move.

Every bookie offering a price on the transfer has cut their odds in half, or more, on the move, with odds being cut from 6/1 into as short as 11/4.

Over the last week, 60% of all bets placed on Maddison’s next destination have been placed on it being Old Trafford after the January window.

That’s by far the most backed in the market, with only 12% of bet sin the market backing Maddison to stay at Leicester past the transfer deadline – despite the Foxes being 1/4 to keep their talisman.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are second favourites at 10/1 to sign the midfielder, attracting 8% of bets in the same time period.

Maddison, who recently withdrew from the England squad due to illness, has created more goalscoring chances (111) than any other player since the start of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Meanwhile, the Leicester star is our fourth best-rated English player (7.42) in Europe's top five leagues this season, which would place second behind Anthony Martial (7.52) of all Manchester United players.

On top of his creative talents the playmaker has completed more than twice as many dribbles (23) as any other Manchester United player this season, with Scott McTominay (11) leading the way for the Red Devils.

When compared to Manchester United's current crop of attack-minded midfielders, only Paul Pogba can stack up against Maddison's figures. The Englishman's WhoScored.com league rating since the start of last season (7.24) is slightly below that of the Frenchman (7.29) but well in excess of the likes of Jesse Lingard (6.53), Juan Mata (6.57) and Andreas Pereira (6.35) in that time.
