Ronaldo spearheads Euro 2024 team of the round dominated by Portugal

 

We take a look at the best rated XI from the second round of group stage games at Euro 2024. Portugal, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Slovenia, Croatia, Belgium and Georgia are all represented in the side. 

 

Giorgi Mamardashvili (Georgia) - 9.25 

 

The best rated performance at Euro 2024 so far, Giorgi Mamardashvili was imperious between the sticks in Georgia's 1-1 draw with Czechia. The 23-year-old made 11 saves in the stalemate, and made five high ball claims, to return a WhoScored rating of 9.25. 

 

Joshua Kimmich (Germany) - 8.32 

 

While he was unable to contribute to a goal in Germany's 2-0 win over Hungary, it wasn't for want of trying as Joshua Kimmich managed four key passes in the victory. Two tackles and two interceptions contributed to a clean sheet success, and Kimmich to a WhoScored rating of 8.32. 

 

Pepe (Portugal) - 7.45 

 

The first of three Portugal representatives, Pepe rolled back to the years to return a WhoScored rating of 7.45 in Saturday's 3-0 win over Turkiye. The 41-year-old found a teammate with 96.9% of his 65 attempted passes and was often in the right place at the right time to protect his goal, making seven clearances and three tackles. 

 

Jonathan Tah (Germany) - 7.29 

 

Partnering Pepe is the second Germany player in the side. Jonathan Tah was again solid as the hosts defeated Hungary in the week as he returned a 96.7% pass success rate from 92 passes. The Bayer Leverkusen man also chipped in with five clearances and two interceptions to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.29. 

 

Marc Cucurella (Spain) - 8.17 

 

Spain dominated Italy in their 1-0 win on Thursday night but Marc Cucurella was still on hand to help La Roja to a clean sheet. Indeed, the left-back made five tackles, three interceptions and two clearances to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.17. 

 

Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) - 8.78 

 

Kevin De Bruyne scored his first goal of Euro 2024 in Belgium's 2-0 win over Romania on Saturday afternoon, netting with one of five shots. De Bruyne was unfortunate not to add an assist having made three key passes, while the Belgian also made four tackles and completed three dribbles in a fine all-round display.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Denmark) - 7.98 

 

England struggled against Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their 1-1 draw with Denmark, with the Tottenham midfielder returning a WhoScored rating of 7.98. The 28-year-old managed six tackles, three interceptions and two clearances in the stalemate. 

 

Timi Max Elsnik (Slovenia) - 8.33 

 

The star player from Slovenia's 1-1 draw with Serbia, Timi Max Elsnik provided the assist for Zan Karnicnik's strike in the Group C encounter, that coming from one of two key passes. The 26-year-old also made three tackles as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.33. 

 

Bernardo Silva (Portugal) - 8.18 

 

Bernardo Silva netted with one of two shots in Portugal's 3-0 win over Turkiye on Saturday evening. Silva was unfortunate not to add an assist having made four key passes, while one tackle and one dribble saw the Portuguese star return a WhoScored rating of 8.18. 

 

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) - 8.01 

 

Leading the charge is the third Portugal international in the XI. Cristiano Ronaldo may have failed to score against Turkiye, but it wasn't for want of trying as he managed four shots. Ronaldo did provide an assist in the 3-0 victory, that coming from three key passes on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.01. 

 

Andrej Kramaric (Croatia) - 8.21 

 

Rounding off the XI is Croatia forward Andrej Kramaric. The 33-year-old struck with his only shot in the eventual 2-2 draw with Albania, while he also completed four dribbles and made three key passes to yield a WhoScored rating of 8.21.
