Insane Lacazette stat proves Martinelli should replace him in Arsenal XI

With just five Premier League goals all season, it's fair to say that Alexandre Lacazette is short of confidence in front of goal.

The 2-2 draw at Arsenal saw Gabriel Martinelli steal the limelight in the absence of the suspended Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Lacazette's goal drought was extended to eight matches.

While the Frenchman has started just 14 of 17 league appearances this season, his goal return may see Mikel Arteta questioning whether the 28-year-old warrants his place in the side. After all, Aubameyang - far and away the club's best goalscorer - is more often than being shunted out wide to accomodate for his good friend.

Factor in Martinelli's emergence and it might be time for the teenager to come in on the left and allow Aubameyang to move into his favoured position leading the line.

That should certainly be the case when the Gabon international returns from his ban for the trip to Burnley in the club's next league outing, with Lacazette holding an embarrassing away record.

All five of the forward's league goals this season have come at the Emirates, though his struggles on the road stretch way beyond this season.

In fact, Lacazette only scored in three Premier League away games last season, with those goals coming against relegated Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff. With that in mind you have to go way back to April 2018 to find the last away game in which the striker scored league a goal against a team currently in the top-flight.

That's 648 days and counting at the time of writing, rising to 658 by the time of Arsenal's next league outing against Burnley. Given Martinelli' performances of late, there's a growing case to be made that Lacazette shouldn't have the chance to end his woeful away run at Turf Moor.
