Yahoo! Fantasy Football: Chelsea star tops performance points
WhoScored.com have teamed up with Yahoo! Sports to help you make the best choices ahead of the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures in your bid to make the best signings for your fantasy football side.
Here, we run down the top performers last week in all positions and whether it would be worth keeping with the players ahead of the next round of fixtures.
But first, UK users can get a £50 bonus on Yahoo! when you deposit at least £5 using the WhoScored bonus code WS50.
What’s more is that there is a WhoScored.com fantasy football game on Yahoo! this week called the “WhoScored.com £500 free” contest. It’s free to enter and you stand the chance to win £500 in prizes. It’s risk-free for a potentially big pay off!
Without further adieu, below are the top earning performers from the previous week of action.
Goalkeepers
Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea – Points Earned 14.5)
Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester – Points Earned 16)
Hugo Lloris (Tottenham – Points Earned 16)
A clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Arsenal earned Hugo Lloris a respectable 16 points with Yahoo! He remains one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but with Friday’s game at West Ham not counting towards the game week, he’s best to avoid.
Tom Heaton (Burnley – Points Earned 17.5)
Burnley are strong at home this season and with Tom Heaton between the sticks, they should be confident of shutting out a West Brom side who have one eye on next season. The Baggies are in the midst of a six-match winless run on the road and have failed to score in their last three away league games. Heaton this week is a must-buy after racking up 17.5 points last week.
Artur Boruc (Bournemouth – Points Earned 17.5)
Like Heaton, Artur Boruc kept a clean sheet away from home last week and has the means to shut out Stoke at the weekend. The Potters have faltered on the road of late and have struggled to score in their last six away from home. For a cheaper goalkeeping alternative, Boruc could be a handy acquisition this week.
Defenders
Cedric Soares (Southampton – Points Earned 8)
Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham – Points Earned 8.2)
Dejan Lovren (Liverpool – Points Earned 8.4)
Jose Fonte (West Ham – Points Earned 8.8)
Joel Matip (Liverpool – Points Earned 8.8)
Ben Davies (Tottenham – Points Earned 10.4)
Calum Chambers (Middlesbrough – Points Earned 11.9)
Adam Smith (Bournemouth – Points Earned 12.9)
Similarly to Boruc, Adam Smith was part of a Bournemouth backline that unsurprisingly shut out Sunderland to earn 12.9 points with Yahoo! At home to goalshy Stoke, the right-back may be worth investing in this week.
Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham – Points Earned 13)
On his 200th appearance for the club, Jan Vertonghen churned out a splendid showing at the back for Tottenham in Sunday’s North London Derby. However, as with Lloris, the Belgian is one to overlook this week.
Gary Cahill (Chelsea – Points Earned 16.5)
A goal and a clean sheet against Everton means Gary Cahill was the highest earning defender on Yahoo! last week. Chelsea host Middlesbrough on Monday night and he is one that certainly deserves to be picked in your XI this week.
Midfielders
Dusan Tadic (Southampton – Points Earned 9.1)
Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester – Points Earned 9.7)
Xherdan Shaqiri (Stoke – Points Earned 9.7)
Nemanja Matic (Chelsea – Points Earned 10.1)
Willian (Chelsea – Points Earned 10.5)
Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth – Points Earned 10.6)
Manuel Lanzini (West Ham – Points Earned 12.1)
Dele Alli (Tottenham – Points Earned 13)
Dele Alli scored the crucial opening goal in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Arsenal to take his tally for the season to 17. However, as Spurs’ trip to West Ham isn’t included in the game week, it won’t be worth adding Alli to your XI this week.
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea – Points Earned 18)
Swansea’s best hope of staying comes in the form of Gylfi Sigurdsson and it was his sweetly taken free-kick that earned the Swans a vital draw against Manchester United last week. He’s scored in his last two league outings against Everton and has the means to continue that good goalscoring form here.
Emre Can (Liverpool – Points Earned 20.2)
It was a stunning strike from Emre Can on Monday night to earn 20.2 points with Yahoo! last week as Liverpool maintained their pursuit of a top-4 finish. He is set to start against Saints on Sunday and with points earned for passes and tackles, he could be worth taking a punt on.
Forwards
Ashley Barnes (Burnley – Points Earned 10.3)
Andre Gray (Burnley – Points Earned 10.6)
Jamie Vardy (Leicester – Points Earned 12.3)
Alvaro Negredo (Middlesbrough – Points Earned 13.6)
Pedro (Chelsea – Points Earned 14.2)
Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City – Points Earned 14.8)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United – Points Earned 15.3)
Josh King (Bournemouth – Points Earned 18.4)
Josh King maintained his excellent goalscoring form with the winning goal against Sunderland at the weekend. Considering Stoke’s abysmal away form, the Bournemouth star is certainly deserving of a place in your Yahoo! XI.
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City – Points Earned 21.2)
Manchester City may have been held to a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, but Sergio Aguero was in fine form once more with a goal and an assist. That being said, the Argentine is set to miss the welcome of Crystal Palace, so he’s one to overlook this time out.
Harry Kane (Tottenham – Points Earned 21.4)
A penalty against Arsenal took Harry Kane’s Premier League goal total to 21 for the season. The England international should not be an automatic pick in your XI this week, though, due to Spurs playing on Friday night.
