Ligue 1 Team of the Month: Di Maria shines in absence of Neymar and Mbappe

 

Here we run through the best WhoScored rated XI for the month of November in Ligue 1.

 

Goalkeeper: Gautier Larsonneur (Brest) - 7.21 rating

 

Brest failed to win a single match in November but pushed their opponents all the way in every game courtesy of their goalkeeper, Gautier Larsonneur. Brest lost three games by a one-goal margin and drew 1-1 with Nantes, with only one goalkeeper making more saves than Larsonneur (18) in Ligue 1 last month.

 

Right-back: Youcef Atal (Nice) - 8.39 rating

 

Highly rated Nice youngster Youcef Atal is the WhoScored Player of the Month for November in Ligue 1. The versatile 23-year-old's lowest WhoScored rating in three appearances last month was 8.13. He registered an assist and claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award in a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux and averaged more dribbles per game (2+ appearances) than any other player in Ligue 1 (5.3).

 

Centre-back: Pablo (Bordeaux) - 7.42 rating

 

Pablo scored his third league goal of the campaign last month, having only netted once in 25 league appearances last season. Bordeaux were unbeaten in November, with Pablo starting three of their four league games. To go with the 28-year-old's goal, Pablo made 16 clearances and seven interceptions, as well as succesfully winning 14 aerial duels.

 

Centre-back: Boubacar Kamara (Marseille) - 7.22 rating

 

Marseille won four games in a row in November and Boubacar Kamara showed his versatility by starting two in midfield and two in defence. The 20-year-old registered one assist in that time and completed 17 tackles and interceptions combined.

 

Left-back: Hassane Kamara (Reims) - 7.57 rating

 

Reims picked up three draws and one defeat in November and Hassane Kamara was by far and away their standout performer last month. The 25-year-old made more tackles (18) than any other player in Ligue 1 last month and also topped the charts when factoring  interceptions into that tally as well (30). Furthermore, Kamara had seven shots and completed nine dribbles across four league appearances.

 

Right wing: Angel Di Maria (Paris Saint-Germain) - 7.99 rating

 

As neither Kylian Mbappe nor Neymar have been available to call on on a regular basis this season, Angel Di Maria has really stepped up for Paris Saint-Germain this season and has arguably been their best player. Di Maria played a direct hand in a goal in all three of PSG's league games last month (two goals, one assist) and his lowest WhoScored rating in that time was 7.90.

 

Central midfield: Teji Savanier (Montpellier) - 7.77 rating

 

Teji Savanier's return to full fitness has been a welcome boost for Montpellier, as the French side have not lost any of the five games their summer signing has started this season. The 27-year-old won possession in the midfield third more times than any other player in Ligue 1 last month (32) and played a direct hand in two goals (one goal, one assist) in four league appearances. He registered 10 key passes and won 13 fouls in that time.

Central midfield: Mounir Chouiar (Dijon) - 8.18 rating

 

Mounir Chouiar finished November as one of the best WhoScored rated player aged 21 and under in Europe's top five leagues. The Dijon starlet scored in wins over Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes last month, while completing more dribbles than any other player in Ligue 1 (19). Not only that, but only Dimitri Payet (13) and Yusuf Yazici (11) completed more crosses than the 20-year-old (10).

 

Left wing: Dimitri Payet (Marseille) - 8.28 rating

 

Dimitri Payet played an integral role in Marseille's stunning form over November, as Andre Villas-Boas side racked up four wins from four to move four points clear of third. Payet scored two goals, registered one assist and finished the month with three WhoScored Man of the Match awards in a row. Furthermore, the 32-year-old created more goalscoring chances than any other player in the division in November (18). 

 

Striker: Jhonder Cadiz (Dijon) - 7.71 rating

 

Mounir Chouiar was not the only Dijon player to impress last month, with Jhonder Cadiz also catching the eye up front. The 24-year-old scored one goal in three appearances, netting the winner in their 2-1 win at home to Paris Saint-Germain. Cadiz's hold up play was particularly key for Dijon, with the forward winning 17 aerial duels across just three games. Not only that, but Cadiz also completed nine dribbles and won eight fouls in that time.

 

Striker: Andy Delort (Montpellier) - 7.66 rating

 

Montpellier extended their unbeaten run to five matches, with four of those falling in November. Andy Delort played a key role in prolonging their good form with two goals and two assists in that time. The 28-year-old has won three WhoScored Man of the Match awards in Ligue 1 this season and two were in November. Moreover, he won 19 aerial duels across Montpellier's four matches.
