Partey and Bale among 20 hopeful debutants in the Premier League this weekend

With the transfer window now well and truly closed following the passing of the extended deadline for deals between English clubs, there are a number of players hoping to make their debuts in the Premier League this weekend. With the likes of Thomas Partey, Gareth Bale and Hakim Ziyech among them, there are even more eager fans hoping to watch their new men in action.

Here we run through each game following the return to action from the international break, highlighting those in with a chance of making their first appearance for their new clubs, as well as those that will have to wait a little longer.

Everton vs Liverpool

It may not be his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt but Thiago Alcantara is in line to make his full debut for the club in Saturday's Merseyside derby after his period of self isolation having tested positive for Covid-19 ended.

There could, however, be a debut for the Toffees, with Ben Godfrey in line to make his first Everton appearance. The former Norwich centre-back's chances of starting have been boosted by a minor injury suffered by Yerry Mina on international duty. Elsewhere for the hosts, Robin Olsen will put pressure on Jordan Pickford's place in goal but is unlikely to displace the England international just yet.

Chelsea vs Southampton

Blues fans will be hopeful of getting their first glimpse of Hakim Ziyech in a competitive match at least after the Moroccan suffered an injury in pre-season. The former Ajax star may well have to make do with a place on the bench at first, with Christian Pulisic also back from injury, but should play some part.

Saints supporters are also eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see a new signing for the first time, with Mohammed Salisu having had the international break to build his fitness. The Ghanaian may come into contention at the back, while Ibrahima Diallo is perhaps more likely to start in midfield following his arrival from Brest, and Theo Walcott may well make an emotional return to the lineup in the absence of Stuart Armstrong.

Manchester City vs Arsenal

Arguably the most highly anticipated debut this weekend, Thomas Partey is expected to lineup in the Arsenal midfield and could face an old teammate in Rodri, with City's midfield weakened by the news that Kevin De Bruyne will miss out.

Newcastle vs Manchester United

While Newcastle's new signings are all settled in, Manchester United may well hand a debut to Alex Telles at left-back, although the £16m signing from Porto has only recently returned from international duty with Brazil. Fellow newcomer Edinson Cavani is in self isolation, however, so will have to wait a little longer to make his Red Devils bow.

Sheffield United vs Fulham

Given their struggles in front of goal this season we could see an immediate Blades debut for Rhian Brewster following his big money move from Liverpool. Fulham, meanwhile, would no doubt have loved to have Joachim Andersen available in an attempt to contain the youngster, but the centre-back is already set for a long spell on the sidelines having injured ankle ligaments.

Tosin Adarabioyo could start at the back, however, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek is perhaps the most likely new face to come straight into Scott Parker's starting XI following his loan move from Chelsea. Terence Kongolo, meanwhile, is ineligible having not registered in time following a deadline day move from Huddersfield.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton

Having returned to the club as a free agent, Nathaniel Clyne is available for the Eagles but unlikely to start having not played in well over a year. Elsewhere fellow full-back Nathan Ferguson is still sidelined as he waits for the chance to make his Palace debut, while Jack Butland is ineligible as he was not registered in time.

For the visitors, young striker Andi Zeqiri is in contention to make the matchday squad having signed from Lausanne in Switzerland off the back of a 17-goal league season, but is unlikely to start.

Tottenham vs West Ham

Spurs fans will be desperate for their chance at a second-first glimpse of Gareth Bale and the Wales international will certainly make the matchday squad for the visit of West Ham, if not the starting XI. Compatriot Joe Rodon will not be eligible to play any part however, having completed his deal on Friday too late to register in time, which is also true of new Hammers hero Said Benrahma, whose arrival should lift some of the gloom at the club following a quiet transfer window.

Leicester vs Aston Villa

With Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans both suffering injuries on international duty, it's likely that centre-back Wesley Fofana will make his first appearance for the Foxes, though Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Evans can at least partner the youngster. Elsewhere Cengiz Under may make his full debut having made a substitute appearance prior to the international break. Villa's new signings, by comparison, are very much up and running.

West Brom vs Burnley

Conor Gallagher is in line to make his league debut for Baggies having featured for the club in the cup before now, while Karlan Grant is set to make his first appearance for the club full stop. The striker, who arrived from Huddersfield on Thursday, is eligible to play and is almost certain to start in the absence of both Hal Robson-Kanu and Callum Robinson.

Leeds vs Wolves

There are two potential debutants as far as Leeds are concerned, though Whites fans may have to wait a little longer to see Diego Llorente in action after the Spaniard withdrew from international duty with a muscle injury. Winger Raphinha is more likely to feature, however, with Pablo Hernandez still struggling for fitness, though he'll have to fight off Helder Costa on the right, with the latter likely to be desperate to face his former club.

Nuno could hand a debut down the same flank to another Ligue 1 arrival in Rayan Ait-Nouri, though the youngster will likely face competition from a fit again Marcal for the left wing-back spot.
