Premier League round-up: The star men from Wednesday’s action revealed

Chelsea 0-0 Southampton: Angus Gunn - 8.26 rating

Angus Gunn was surprisingly drafted into the team to replace Alex McCarthy in goal and the former Manchester City shot-stopper vindicated his manager’s faith with an immense performance on his Premier League debut for the club. The 22-year-old made six saves and three clearances to help Southampton keep their first clean sheet away from home in the Premier League since October.

West Ham 2-2 Brighton: Marko Arnautovic - 8.79 rating

Marko Arnautovic inspired West Ham’s comeback against Brighton to rescue a point after going 2-0 down with more than an hour played. The Austria international, who has only just returned from injury, netted twice in two minutes to restore parity and take his tally to seven in the league this season. Arnautovic hit the target with four of his five shots in total and also completed two dribbles.

Huddersfield 1-2 Burnley:  Dwight McNeil - 7.93 rating

Teenage Burnley midfielder Dwight McNeil has now won the WhoScored Man of the Match award in successive games after helping Burnley come from behind to secure three crucial points away to relegation rivals Huddersfield. McNeil supplied the assist from which Burnley equalised, to go with his goal at the weekend. The 19-year-old also completed two more dribbles than the rest of his team combined (5) despite coming off in the 62nd-minute. He also chipped in with four tackles and interceptions combined.

Bournemouth 3-3 Watford: Troy Deeney - 9.36 rating

In a stunning match at the Vitality Stadium, Troy Deeney won the WhoScored Man of the Match award after playing a direct hand in all three of Watford’s goals in the first half. Deeney put Watford 2-0 up with both goals inside the opening 27 minutes and was then forced to turn provider when the Hornets found themselves pegged back to 2-2 10 minutes later. Deeney registered four key passes in total, while also winning 12 aerial duels in a dominant centre forward performance.

Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace: Jordan Ayew - 8.07 rating

Jordan Ayew’s introduction to the team proved an inspired choice by manager Roy Hodgson, as the 27-year-old finished as the WhoScored Man of the Match. Ayew scored with his only shot on target, registered three key passes and also completed three dribbles. Hodgson would have been particularly pleased with Ayew’s work off the ball, as no Palace completed more tackles than the forward (5).

Newcastle 0-2 Manchester United: Marcus Rashford - 8.01 rating

Marcus Rashford has now played a direct hand in 12 Premier League goals this season after netting late on against Newcastle, equalling his tally from the entirety of the last campaign. Rashford hit the target with four of his seven shots and forced the mistake from Newcastle’s goalkeeper from which United opened the scoring in the second half. The 21-year-old dealt with some heavy challenges but never stopped going, completing two dribbles and providing one key pass.
