Fantasy Football: Who to buy, sell and captain for gameweek 3
There is plenty to ponder for Fantasy Football fans heading in to round three of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
After resisting the temptation to make a transfer last weekend, some will feel they are in a position of strength. With two free transfers, there is wriggle room to manoeuvre in the transfer window.
We are all asking the same questions. Was last weekend's loss to Crystal Palace a sign of things to come for Manchester United? After failing to score in two, is Timo Werner the real deal? Are Everton going to win the league?
Here we will attempt to answer your burning questions. Who to buy, sell and captain for gameweek 3. But first, it's time for an update on the WhoScored Invitational private league. If you've not entered, it's not too late.
The WhoScored Invitational
It's all change at the top of the leaderboard. Early pace setter 'Tempo FC' has fallen completely out of the picture. There is a three-way tie at the top of the standings with Solomon Appiaguei, Mustapha Adam and David Worthington all locked on 177 points.
Solomon Appiagyei cashed in on having Harry Kane as his captain, with the Tottenham ace yielding 42 points after registering four assists and scoring once in a 5-2 win over Southampton last weekend.
Mustapha Adam had four-goal hero Heung-min Son as his captain to help record a massive 120 points in GW2, while David Worthington had hat-trick hero Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Patrick Bamfrod, Kevin De Bruyne and James Rodriguez as big points scorers to shoot up the rankings.
Player to Buy - Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham)
Aleksandar Mitrovic may be a particularly appealing option ahead of GW3 for players with two free transfers saved up. He was dumped heavily after the opening weekend but Fulham have a decent run of games ahead and at the cost of just 6M he will certainly free up funds for you to make an expansive signing with your other free transfer.
Fulham are going to rely heavily on Mitrovic this season to beat the drop and the Cottagers really need to make the most of their current run of games to get ahead of the curve. Scott Parker's side face Aston Villa on Monday and then Wolves, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, West Brom and West Ham after that. Importantly, Mitrovic has form on his side heading into the new gameweek, with three goals in two starts in all competitions this season.
Player to Sell - Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)
Hear us out. This is only a short-term suggestion. Arsenal are about to start a tough run of matches, starting with a trip to Anfield to face defending champions Liverpool on Monday. In fact, the Gunners face Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester and Manchester United in their next five Premier League matches.
That isn't to say Aubameyang can't pick up points during that run but logically there are players in the same midfield bracket around the same price point (11.9M) that are more likely to score higher. For example, Sadio Mane costs the same, while Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne (11.6M) and Raheem Sterling (11.5M) are all cheaper options.
We aren't alone in thinking similar. At the time of writing Aubameyang is actually the most transferred out player heading into the weekend's action and we have gone down this route with our team, bringing in De Bruyne for the Arsenal skipper.
Who to Captain - Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)
Roberto Firmino is certainly not your typical No.9. He's not going to score 20+ league goals a season but for Liverpool he is as valuable. His work off the ball and link-up play is integral to the way Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to play but against Arsenal on Monday night he may have his eye on scoring goals rather than helping the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah find the back of the net.
Arsenal are actually Firmino's favourite opponent. The Brazilian has scored eight goals in 10 Premier League appearances against Arsenal, more than any other opponent in his career. Moreover, Firmino has netted in four of Liverpool's last five home league encounters with the Gunners. He is unlikely to be the most popular captain pick this week and that personal record against Arsenal could come up trumps and give you the edge over your rivals.
