Manchester United vs Manchester City Player Ratings: United do the double

Manchester United were hugely impressive as they ensured they did the double over Manchester City for the first time since 2013 courtesy of goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay as they earned a 2-0 win to boost their top-four hopes.

Manchester United - 7.16 

David De Gea - 7.49: Saved a Raheem Sterling shot well after 10 minutes and got down impressively to turn a low Gabriel Jesus drive away from goal. All in all, made four saves as he recovered well from last week's shocker at Everton. 

Victor Lindelof - 7.30: Solid on the right of the three-man defence and was proactive in alleviating pressure on the United goal, making six clearances. 

Harry Maguire - 7.08: Showed no ill effects of an ankle injury that could have kept him out of the Manchester Derby. Marshalled the backline well and made a fine last-ditch challenge to deny Gabriel Jesus when the Brazilian was set to pull the trigger. 

Luke Shaw - 6.54. Caught in possession early on by Sergio Aguero, but was fortunately bailed out by David De Gea, who did well to deny Raheem Sterling. He did quickly recover from that mistake in the opening exchanges. 

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 8.36: Kept Oleksander Zinchenko and then Benjamin Mendy in check with ease as he made eight tackles in a man of the match display from the England hopeful. 

Fred - 6.97: Cruelly booked for a dive, when replays showed he was fouled by Nicolas Otamendi in the Manchester City box. Another impressive display from the Brazilian, who continues to excel. 

Nemanja Matic - 7.59: Another solid performance from the Serb in the middle of the park, who has taken his chance to consolidate a first team spot with both hands. 

Brandon Williams - 6.91: Manchester United's big game player with three of his last five starts coming against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. Was dribbled past six times in total before his withdrawal with 15 minutes to play as three of the six times came after Riyad Mahrez was introduced on the hour mark. 

Bruno Fernandes - 7.13: Slipped through to Daniel James to set to Welshman clear in what was Manchester United's first chance. Provided a superb assist for Anthony Martial to open the scoring on the half hour mark. Left frustrated by Daniel James' hesitance prior to his late withdrawal, but left to a standing ovation as he made the most key passes (3) in the Manchester Derby. 

Daniel James - 7.14: Stung the palms of Ederson with a low drive after 15 minutes, but had he looked up, may have seen Anthony Martial in a better position. Played the ball through the Fred that should have seen United win a penalty at the end of the first half. Faced the wrath Bruno Fernandes for not releasing the ball quickly enough as United countered. 

Anthony Martial - 7.78: Got the better of Fernandinho midway through the first half, however his tame effort was easy for Ederson. Also had Bruno Fernandes in a better position on the edge of the box. Made amends two minutes later as be found the back of the net at Ederson's near post. Almost had a second as he pressured Ederson before he came off with 15 minutes to go.

Manchester City - 6.26 

Ederson - 4.43: Level to Daniel James' low effort after quarter of an hour and easily denied Anthony Martial midway through the first half. However, he should have done better for the latter's goal on the half hour mark as Martial's low volley squirmed underneath the Brazilian. Came perilously close to another error, but recovered in time to deny Martial a second, yet could do nothing to deny Scott McTominay a late goal as he threw the ball straight to the Scot. Worst rated Premier League performance in a Manchester City shirt. 

Joao Cancelo - 7.47: Drafted in for Kyle Walker to make his first Premier League start since Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in mid-January. Rightly carded for a cynical foul after the break, yet was a solid attacking outlet on the right, completing five dribbles. 

Fernandinho - 6.20: Beaten far too easily by Anthony Martial and was bailed out by Ederson shortly before Martial's goal. Booked in the first half in an outing that really showed his age. 

Nicolas Otamendi - 6.66: Can count himself lucky that he didn't concede a penalty towards the end of the first half after fouling Fred, with the Manchester United midfielder carded for a supposed dive. 

Oleksandar Zinchenko - 6.11: Offered a threat from the left, but end product was found wanting. Failed to create a chance or complete a dribble and wasn't imaginative enough in possession as his 86 passes suggests. 

Bernardo Silva - 6.23: Did little of note in his hour on the pitch before being withdrawn for Riyad Mahrez. Usually does well for City at Old Trafford, yet put in a fairly disappointing display by his lofty standards. 

Rodri - 6.62: Tidy in possession once more as he found a teammate with 81 of his 88 attempted passes, yet this was an afternoon to forget for the Spaniard. 

Ilkay Gundogan - 6.38: Poor in the middle of the park. Made just one tackle and created only two goalscoring chances, and was booked for a challenge on Bruno Fernandes that led to Anthony Martial's goal. His performance merely accentuated how big a loss Kevin De Bruyne was.  

Phil Foden - 6.67: Struggled initially, but looked brighter when dropped into midfield. However, he put in a sub-standard performance, even if he did complete the second most dribbles (4) 

Sergio Aguero - 6.07: Replaced in the second half after a fairly anonymous performance. Lost Anthony Martial for Manchester United's first goal. Thought he'd equalised, but his goal was chalked off as he was offside. 

Raheem Sterling - 6.15: Saw a shot well saved by David De Gea in the 10th minute as he strived to end his goalless run. Failed to make the most of a Riyad Mahrez cross with 15 minutes to play after the Algerian had got in behind Brandon Williams. Still yet to score a league goal in 2020.
