Fantasy Football: Who to buy, sell and captain for gameweek 22

With clubs keeping a tight watch over their pursestrings, the January transfer window was a non-starter for most. Liverpool created a buzz with their late swoop for defensive duo Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, while Southampton's capture of Takumi Minamino is certainly one to be intrigued by. On the whole, however, it was an underwhelming month for new additions for your Fantasy Football teams.

With the deadline for gameweek 22 looming quickly (16:30 GMT), you are running out of time to confirm your Fantasy Football team. Don't have time to conduct thorough research? Don't worry, we are here to help. We have scoured the fixtures and have produced some options for you to consider.

Player to Buy: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) - 4.3M

Second in our Premier League player form rankings, Bukayo Saka's return is arguably as big a boost as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's availability for Tuesday's clash with Wolves. Saka has enjoyed a great run of form of late and his absence against Manchester United at the weekend was clearly missed. Saka scored in four of his last six Premier League matches and registered two assists in that time.

Only Manchester City (18) and West Ham (12) have collected more Premier League points than Arsenal in 2021 and Mikel Arteta will be eyeing a return to winning ways against a struggling Wolves side on Tuesday night. By contrast, Wolves have taken the fewest Premier League points (2) this calander year - one of only two teams yet to win a game. Indeed, only West Brom (15) and Newcastle (10) have conceded more goals than Wolves (9) in that time.

Player to sell: Kurt Zouma (Chelsea) - 5.5M

One of the most interesting aspects of Thomas Tuchel's first two matches in charge of Chelsea has been the absence of Kurt Zouma, who has been benched in both games. Zouma emerged as a top performer under Frank Lampard at the start of the season and was even scoring goals for fun. However, even with Tuchel preferring a back three, there has been no place for Zouma. Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta have instead returned to favour under the German.

Zouma will surely get a chance in the near future but for now there is no reason to change as far as Tuchel is concerned. Chelsea haven't even conceded a shot on target under Tuchel! Despite dropping down the pecking order, Zouma is still selected in 12.7% of Fantasy Football squads. At 5.5M that is a pricey defender to have in your squad that is currently warming the bench for club. Ben Chilwell and Reece James should also follow Zouma out of your Fantasy Football team if you have them.

Who to captain?

All of the attention will naturally be on Tottenham and Chelsea's encounter on Thursday but one of the most intriguing match-ups in midweek will actually be at Villa Park the night before. Aston Villa and West Ham have been the two surprise packages of the campaign so far. Both West Ham and Villa have almost matched their tallies from the whole of last season, with both making unlikely pushes for European football.

Mohamed Salah will no doubt be the most captained player in midweek but Jack Grealish could prove an inspired pick. Our top WhoScored rated player in the Premier League this season (7.84), Grealish has great recent memories against West Ham. He scored the goal on the final day of last season effectively keeping Villa in the Premier League and also netted in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign. Moreover, Grealish has scored or assisted in four of his last five league appearances and has played a direct hand in 15 goals for the season.
