Fantasy Football: Who to buy, sell and captain for gameweek 23

Congratulations if you cashed in on Manchester United's remarkable 9-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night. There were certainly some big points to be had from that match. Less so if you captained Mohamed Salah against Brighton!

Forget about that now, it's time to jump back on the horse and go again. Another Premier League gameweek is fast approaching with the deadline to finalise your team set at 11:00 GMT on Saturday. Not enough time to do the scouting yourself? Do not fear. We are on hand to help. We have scoured the fixtures and have some options for you to consider.

Player to buy: Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea) - 4.5M

Thomas Tuchel wanted Antonio Rudiger at Paris Saint-Germain and has wasted no time getting the Germany international back in the Chelsea side. Rudiger has started Tuchel's first three matches in charge and doesn't look set for a rest anytime soon now Thiago Silva is out injured. Kurt Zouma was a FPL favourite during Frank Lampard's time in charge but he is now out of the side at Rudiger's expense. Tuchel became the first Chelsea manager since Jose Mourinho in his first stint to start his tenure with three straight clean sheets following Thursday's comfortable 1-0 win over Tottenham. Chelsea have some kind fixtures on the horizon and it's time to get Rudiger in your team before his measly £4.5M price tag increases.

Player to sell: Timo Werner (Chelsea) - £9.2M

Anyone hoping for Thomas Tuchel to wave his magic wand and get Timo Werner back to his goalscoring best simply because they are both German will be disappointed. Werner still looks a shadow of himself and Tuchel looked aghast at his striker on a number of occasions during Chelsea's 1-0 win over Tottenham on Thursday. Werner, to his credit, did well to win Chelsea's penalty in midweek but was notably not the man over the spot-kick. Jorginho was back on penalty duty and Mason Mount was reportedly next in line after that. Werner's confidence is simply on the floor, yet he is remarkably still in 12.2% of FPL teams. Admittedly, the options in attack on FPL are thin but it might be worth using Werner's money for a cheaper alternative and then signing a more expensive midfielder.

Who to captain? Bruno Fernandes

After a five-game run without a goal or an assist, Bruno Fernandes returned to form in Manchester United's stunning 9-0 victory over Southampton. Fernandes was surprisingly given the full 90 minutes and he took full advantage with a goal and two assists in the second half. The Portugal international claimed a perfect WhoScored 10 rating as a result, the first of his Premier League career. In doing so, Fernandes became only the second United player to get a 10 rating in a Premier League game in the post-Ferguson era. Paul Pogba was the first back in December 2018 and he followed that up with another 10 rated performance in their next game. An omen for Fernandes when they face Everton? He has already scored against them this season...
