5 Championship youngsters to consider for your Football INDEX portfolio

With the 2018/19 Championship campaign kicking off on Friday night, we run through five young stars that may be worth adding to your portfolio ahead of the new season.

Mason Mount - Derby County

Mason Mount enjoyed a fine loan stint with Vitesse last season, scoring 14 goals and registering nine assists for the Eredivise outfit. At 19 years of age, the future is bright for the teenage star, but it was unlikely that Chelsea would keep him on for the campaign. Indeed, the Blues sent Mount on loan to Derby County, now managed by former Chelsea hero Frank Lampard.

The Lampard effect would have influenced Mount’s decision to move to Derby for the campaign and both player and club are expected to benefit this season. Derby kick off their season with a Friday night visit to Reading, who finished just three points above the relegation zone last term and are tipped to struggle once more. Mount currently has an affordable buy price of £1.87 per share on Football INDEX at present and that’s enough to rank among the top-200 players. Over the last seven days, though, that has risen 26.40%, so add him to your portfolio as soon as possible.

Harry Wilson - Derby County

Sticking with Derby, this time focusing on Mount’s new teammate Harry Wilson. The Liverpool youngster enjoyed a prolific loan stint with Hull City last term as he scored seven and registered three assists for the Tigers in the second half of the season. Now at Derby, the 21-year-old can be expected to benefit from regular game time under Lampard.

Like Mount, Wilson is set to start against Reading on Friday night and his influence in the final third will be crucial if the Rams are to enjoy a running start to the season. With a buy price of £1.15 per share on Football INDEX, Wilson is a more affordable attacker than Mount. If the Welshman can transfer his excellent Hull form to Derby, than that price may increase as the games come thick and fast. He’s already enjoyed a 13.3% rise over the last seven days and he could prove a handy money maker in the long run.

Ben Woodburn - Sheffield United

Aston Villa were the rumoured frontrunners to sign Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool, but they were pipped to his signature by Sheffield United. The 18-year-old forward has the potential to become a sensation at Anfield, but he’ll need to prove his worth in Sheffield this term. It remains to be seen just how much game time Woodburn will earn with the Blades this season, yet if handed the chance to impress, he’s expected to do just that.

With a buy price of £1.33 per share on Football INDEX, Woodburn will cost slightly more than Liverpool teammate Wilson, yet he has the goalscoring means to match expectations in Sheffield. He may have endured a slight blip in buy price recently, yet that shouldn’t deter suitors from considering adding Woodburn to your portfolio.

Oghenekaro Etebo - Stoke City

Gary Rowett has done well to deter potential suitors from landing Jack Butland and Badou Ndiaye so far this summer, though the latter is linked with a move to Everton that could see Ashley Williams move the other way, while convincing Joe Allen to pen a new deal at the Bet365 Stadium is a coup to say the least. However, the eye catching addition to the squad comes in Oghenekaro Etebo.

The midfielder impressed for Nigeria at the World Cup, completing 16 of 17 attempted dribbles, and was ruthless out of possession as he made 3.7 tackles per game. Stoke must be counting their blessings that they wrapped up a deal for Etebo before the World Cup, with his stock soaring in Russia. His all-action displays should be key for a Stoke side aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League, though the 22-year-old’s buy price is a lowly £0.55 per share on Football INDEX at present. That has risen 11.15% over the last week and will only increase if he, as expected, takes to English football like a duck to water.

Oliver Burke - West Brom

Oliver Burke’s move to the Bundesliga didn’t go as planned, while his return to England hasn’t quite worked out just yet. After West Brom’s relegation, the 21-year-old will have been pondering his future at the Hawthorns, but the young winger now has the opportunity to nail down a regular starting spot in Darren Moore’s side.

With James McClean departing for Stoke, there is a wing spot up for grabs and Burke would be wise to grabbing his chance to impress with both hands. He’s currently trading a £0.69 per share on Football INDEX, yet has seen a slight rise of 7.40% over the last week. We could see that increase further still should he capitalise upon his opportunity to consolidate a regular starting spot in Moore’s XI.
