Europe's top 10 performers: Former Arsenal man pips Tottenham pair

 

There were goals galore across Europe's top five leagues this weekend as Bayern Munich got their season up and running with an 8-0 win over Schalke. Tottenham and Everton both secured 5-2 wins at the expense of Southampton and West Brom, respectively, as we look at the top rated performances from the weekend... 

 

10. Gerard Moreno (Villarreal) - 9.32 

 

Propping this leaderboard is Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno after his man of the match display in a 2-1 win over Eibar. The Spain international had a direct hand in both goals for the Yellow Submarine, drawing Villarreal level midway through the second half before turning provider for Paco Alcacer from respective returns of five shots and four key passes. 

 

9. Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo) - 9.33 

 

Like Villarreal, Celta Vigo, too, landed a 2-1 win, edging past Valencia to end an eight-match winless run stretching back to last season. Iago Aspas netted both goals for the Celestes, scoring with both shots in the narrow victory, while five key passes and four dribbles helped him to a WhoScored rating of 9.33. 

 

8. William Carvalho (Real Betis) - 9.41 

 

Real Betis made it two wins from two when the eased past Real Valladolid at the weekend. The game was over after 20 minutes when William Carvalho netted his first league goal for the Spanish side since joining in 2018. The Portuguese star eased through the midfield as he completed five dribbles, and he could have had an assist, too, as he made three key passes. 

 

7. Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich) - 9.41 

 

Bayern Munich got their season off to a stunning start as they romped to an 8-0 win over Schalke to kick off the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign. Thomas Muller is the first of three Bayern players in this leaderboard as he scored one and assisted another to yield a WhoScored rating of 9.41. 

 

6. Angel Di Maria (PSG) - 9.42 

 

After a sub-par start to the season, PSG made light work of Nice on the French coast, coming away with a 3-0 win. Angel Di Maria was the star of the show as the Argentine garnered a WhoScored rating of 9.42 having scored one and assisted another from respective returns of three shots and five key passes.

5. Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich) - 9.69 

 

Making his Bayern Munich debut, Leroy Sane didn't disappoint against his old club Schalke. The German winger bagged his first goal for the side with 20 minutes remaining and provided two assists, both for Serge Gnabry to score, to pick up a WhoScored rating of 9.69, that the fifth best in Europe's top five leagues this weekend. 

 

4. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) - 9.92 

 

Just missing out on a place on the podium, Dominic Calvert-Lewin bagged a hat-trick for Everton as they secured a 5-2 win over West Brom on Saturday. Calvert-Lewin hit the back of the net with three of his six efforts in the victory at Goodison Park, and won four aerial duels to cap a fine performance. 

 

3. Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 10.0 

 

The first of three perfect 10s across Europe's top five leagues this week, Son Heung-Min scored his first Premier League hat-trick of his career in Tottenham's 5-2 win at Southampton, scoring four goals in total. Having hit the back of the net with all four shots, Son was deserving of a perfect 10. 

 

2. Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 10.0 

 

Pipping Son to the man of the match award in Tottenham's 5-2 win at Southampton, Harry Kane had a direct hand in all five goals, providing four assists from four key passes. He got on the scoresheet late on, too, as he netted with one of two shots to cap a fine afternoon at St. Mary's.

1. Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich) - 10.0 

 

Securing top spot at the expense of the Tottenham pair, Serge Gnabry kicked off the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign with a hat-trick in Bayern's 8-0 win over Schalke. Scoring with three of five shots, Gnabry was unfortunate not to add an assist to his collection having made three key passes in a stunning display at the Allianz Arena.
