Premier League Team of the Month: Star man De Bruyne joined by Liverpool trio

 

Here we run through the best WhoScored rated XI for the month of December in the Premier League, with additional information about their Football Index share prices.

 

Goalkeeper: Vicente Guaita (Crystal Palace) - 7.15 rating

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita kept two clean sheets in six matches and only conceded four goals overall. Guaita made 22 saves in that time to help Roy Hodgson's side cement their place in the top half of the Premier League table.

 

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.65 rating

December was an exceptional month for Trent Alexander-Arnold, as the Liverpool right-played a direct hand in four goals in five league appearances (one goal, three assists). There is no doubt he is the world's best in his position on current form.

 

Centre-back: James Tomkins (Crystal Palace) - 7.25 rating

James Tomkins played an important role at both ends of the field for Crystal Palace last month, as the Eagles navigated through December with just one defeat in six matches. Tomkins scored once and registered one assist, while also ranking fourth in the division for most clearances made (39).

 

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.29 rating

Liverpool finished 2019 with four clean sheets in a row in the Premier League, conceding just twice overall in December. Virgil van Dijk was of course at the heart of Liveprool's renewed defensive stability with 22 clearances and as many aerial duels won across his five appearances. Moreover, Van Dijk averaged more accurate passes per game (79) than any other player in the division.

Left-back: Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham) - 7.22 rating

Jan Vertonghen spent half of last month out at left-back and the veteran responded with a goal and an assist in that time, including the match winner away to Wolves before Christmas. The Tottenham ace made 21 tackles across his six league appearances in December and won 15 aerial duels.

 

Right wing: Adama Traore (Wolves) - 8.21 rating

Adama Traore narrowly misses out on being our Premier League player of the month after hitting career-best form in December. The Wolves winger remarkably completed at least 14 more dribbles than any other player in the Premier League last month (53). In fact, Traore completed more dribbles than Bournemouth (47) and Burnley (32) in December! He also scored twice and registered one assist, with all goal involvements coming against Tottenham and Manchester City.

 

Central midfield: Willian (Chelsea) - 7.68 rating

Despite the excitement around Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi, Willian remains Chelsea's most consistent winger. The Brazilian turned in decisive performances against London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal last month and claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award in each victory. Chelsea scored four goals across those matches and Willian played a direct hand in three of them (two goals, one assist).

 

Central midfield: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 8.22 rating

Kevin De Bruyne is our Premier League player of the month for December after posting a WhoScored rating in excess of 7.00 in all six of his appearances. He played a direct hand in six goals in that time (three goals, three assists). In fact, no one scored or assisted more goals than De Bruyne in the Premier League last month (6), while only one player completed more accurate through balls than the Belgian (3).

 

Left wing: Sadio Mane (Liverpool) - 7.80 rating

Player of the month Kevin De Bruyne was one of four players to score or assist six goals in the Premier League last month and Sadio Mane was another. The Liverpool forward did so in just four matches, playing a direct hand in at least one goal in every appearance. The 27-year-old reserved his best performance for the Merseyside derby at the start of December with a star man showing (one goal, two assists).

Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester) - 7.49 rating

Jamie Vardy celebrated the turn of the year with a new child and the Leicester frontman also makes our best rated XI for the month of December. Vardy netted five goals in six league appaerances and has now played a direct hand in 20 goals in 19 league appearances this season (17 goals, three assists).

 

Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 7.72 rating

Football Index share price - £5.69

 

Harry Kane now looks set for a long spell out injured and Tottenham will miss the England captain terribly. Kane scored four goals in six league appearances last month and was one of only two players to record a perfect WhoScored 10 rated performance (vs Burnley).
