England star Bellingham among top performers from day two of Euro 2024

 

After day two of Euro 2024 action, we run through the top rated performers from Sunday's games. England, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and Denmark are all represented in this list. 

 

10. John Stones (England) - 7.18 

 

England held firm to kick off their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Serbia with John Stones solid at the back. The 30-year-old made six clearances and won all four aerial duels he contested to land a WhoScored rating of 7.18. 

 

9. Jakub Kiwior (Poland) - 7.20 

 

While Poland fell to a 2-1 loss to Netherlands, Jakub Kiwior did all he could to help his side, making five tackles and two interceptions. Kiwior also won three aerial duels on his way to a respectable WhoScored rating of 7.20. 

 

8. Adam Buksa (Poland) - 7.33 

 

Adam Buksa headed Poland ahead in their eventual 2-1 loss to the Netherlands, netting with one of two efforts on goal. The 27-year-old also won two aerial duels and made one key pass as he shouldered the attacking burden well. 

 

7. Nathen Ake (Netherlands) - 7.44 

 

Nethan Ake put in a fine shift for the Netherlands against Poland. The Manchester City man provided the assist for Cody Gakpo's equaliser, that coming from one of four key passes, and made a last man tackle to land a WhoScored rating of 7.44. 

 

6. Bart Verbruggen (Netherlands) - 7.74 

 

Netherlands were expected to dominate against Poland but they still needed goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to impress between the sticks. The 21-year-old could do nothing to keep Adam Buksa out in the first half but made six saves in total at Volksparkstadion. 

 

5. Jaka Bijol (Slovenia) - 7.80 

 

Slovenia held Denmark to a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening with centre-back Jaka Bijol key in their resolute backline. Indeed, he made 10 clearances, five tackles and four interceptions to ensure a result in their Group C opener. 

 

4. Christian Eriksen (Denmark) - 8.00 

 

1100 days after suffering a near-fatal cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Christian Eriksen gave Denmark the lead on Sunday evening, netting with one of five shots. The Danish creator was also unfortunate not to add an assist having made seven key passes to return a WhoScored rating of 8.00.

3. Jude Bellingham (England) - 8.08 

 

England's hero on Sunday night, Jude Bellingham's first half header proved to be the difference as the Three Lions defeated Serbia. Bellingham scored with his only effort and completed two dribbles. The youngster was tidy in possession, too, finding a teammate with 95.7% of his 70 attempted passes. 

 

2. Erik Janza (Slovenia) - 8.16 

 

Erik Janza netted Slovenia's equaliser, albeit via a deflection, against Denmark with one of three shots on Sunday evening. The 30-year-old also managed two key passes, two interceptions and two clearances in a player of the match performance. 

 

1. Cody Gakpo (Netherlands) - 8.88 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.88, Cody Gakpo was the best rated performer from the second day of Euro 2024 action. Gakpo netted the Netherlands' equaliser against Poland with one of five efforts on goal, and could have helped himself to an assist having made three key passes. The Liverpool forward also completed five dribbles and won four aerial duels in a fine display.
