Fantasy Football Tips for Gameweek 7 in the Premier League

The Premier League gears up for its final round of fixtures before the international break and the WhoScored tipster is back to help ensure you finish this period with as many points as possible.

Charlie Austin and Christian Benteke were correctly tipped last weekend and the tipster is hoping for similar success this time around. The fixtures have been examined and here are some players that you should consider ahead of gameweek 7.

STEWART DOWNING (MIDDLESBROUGH)

West Ham have lost five of their opening six league matches for the first time in their history and are a ship sinking fast. It’s been a disastrous start to the season and Middlesbrough should be looking to heap more misery on Slaven Bilic’s side on Saturday when the two meet at the London Stadium.

Southampton provided the blueprint of how to really hurt West Ham and Boro should look to follow suit by targeting their understrength full-backs as often as possible. Injuries in that area have left Bilic with few options and if Boro can commit their own full-backs to attack then they should really benefit from the wide areas.

Adama Traore proved what a threat he can be when he came off the bench against Tottenham, completing eight dribbles in 45 minutes. However, he hasn’t started a Premier League game in his two seasons in England so would prove a risky transfer. Instead, Stewart Downing is a safer option. Only two players have completed more accurate crosses in the Premier League than Downing this season (15), which provides plenty of opportunities to pick up assists. It’s therefore not surprising that no Boro player has set up more goals since the start of last season (Downing – 7) and the former Hammer could be set for a happy return to east London.

RYAN BERTRAND (SOUTHAMPTON)

The England international was key to Southampton’s tactical reinvention against West Ham and was a real threat going forward in their 3-0 win, registering his first assist of the season. He’s unlikely to have the same joy against the Premier League champions on Sunday, but the Foxes already look a shadow of their title winning side from last season.

Bertrand’s return to fitness has unsurprisingly coincided with Southampton’s upturn in form. In fact, since the start of last season Southampton have won more than half of their league games with the left-back in the team (54.3%) and only one of nine league matches when Bertrand has been unable to start.

Southampton haven’t conceded a goal in their last 450 minutes of action and Claude Puel’s men may feel like they can continue their resurgent form this weekend. Bertrand will be fresh on Sunday having not featured in the Europa League and ready to continue his fine form.

THEO WALCOTT (ARSENAL)

It might be too soon to say the penny has finally dropped for Theo Walcott at Arsenal but he is definitely enjoying some of his best football in his 10-year Arsenal career. The 27-year-old has scored in three consecutive Arsenal matches for the first time since May 2013 and will be eyeing goals in four straight matches for just the second time in his career (January 2013 being the last time).

The England international now appears to have accepted he will no longer be a striker and is thriving out on the right hand side behind Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal travel to newly promoted Burnley on Saturday and will be looking to make it five wins on the spin ahead of the international break.

Arsene Wenger’s side have won five of their last six against Burnley and scored at least two goals in four of those victories. Walcott may be one of the most frustrating footballers but there can be no denying his form, which should really continue against the Clarets.

BORJA BASTON (SWANSEA)

Swansea's club record signing is yet to start a league game this season but with Francesco Guidolin facing a real fight to save his job Borja Baston could be risked against high-flying Liverpool on Saturday, having stepped up his return from injury in recent weeks.

While Liverpool have been rampant in attack they have not managed to keep a clean sheet in the league this season. In fact, they've kept the same amount of clean sheets in the Premier League as Aston Villa in 2016 despite having played more games than the now Championship club (4).

Added to that, Swansea have become something of a bogey team for Liverpool in the past, particularly at the Liberty City Stadium. Liverpool have only won one of their last five away games in Wales, which should give Guidolin's side confidence, especially if they can start in the manner they did against Manchester City last weekend.

Baston scored 18 goals last season for an Eibar side that had to contend with a relegation fight, so he will be used to living off scraps. Even if Liverpool are at their best going forward there will always be chances for the opposition. Since the start of last season Liverpool have committed the most errors that have directly led to a shot at goal (35) after all.
