Chelsea youngster pips Arsenal signing to Premier League team of the week

After the opening two weeks of Premier League football only two teams have maximum points on the board with Liverpool and Arsenal leading the way.

However, while the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea dropped points both are represented in the team of the week, though there is no doubt as to the star man this time around.

GK: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) - 8.16

To say that the 2-2 scoreline wasn’t an accurate reflection of the game would be an understatement and Lloris had a big part to play in Spurs escaping with a point. Manchester City had 30 shots to their visitors three but the Frenchman was equal to eight of those, making more saves than any other goalkeeper.

First reserve: Aaron Ramsdale (Bournemouth) - 7.45

DR: Ricardo Pereira (Leicester) - 8.02

While Leicester were outplayed in the first half Pereira played a big part in the Foxes ability to stay in the game and ultimately salvage a point. The right-back produced eight tackles and three interceptions at Stamford Bridge and completed five dribbles to help his side turn the tables after the break.

First reserve: Ahmed Elmohamady (Aston Villa) - 7.69

DC: Chris Basham (Sheffield United) - 7.48

An impressive rearguard action from the Blades on Saturday meant that Crystal Palace rarely threatened and Chris Wilder’s side were good value for their victory. Basham was solid at the back, winning three tackles, two interceptions and completing five clearances as well as creating a chance at the other end.

First reserve: Yerry Mina (Everton) - 7.46

DC: Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United) - 7.58

Joining his fellow centre-back in the XI this week, O’Connell played a prominent role in both boxes, winning six aerial duels in total. The 25-year-old completed 11 clearances - the most of any player in gameweek two - and had three attempts at goal to boot.

First reserve: Steve Cook (Bournemouth) - 7.42

DL: Lucas Digne (Everton) - 7.83

Having registered a superb assist for Everton’s early match-winner, Digne takes his place at left-back aiming to build upon an excellent debut campaign. The France international also made three tackles and six clearances, as well as firing off three shots himself.

First reserve: Emerson (Chelsea) - 7.78

RW: Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) - 7.63

Having missed the opening day victory over West Ham, Silva was keen to impress and attempted five shots at the Tottenham goal, as well as completing three dribbles. In a typically industrious display the Portuguese also chipped in with one tackle and two interceptions.

First reserve: Todd Cantwell (Norwich) - 7.54

CM: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 8.56

In a bid to make up for lost time on the sidelines last season, De Bruyne has made a lightning fast start to the new campaign, registering the assist for both of City’s goals in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham. The first was a sumptuous first time cross to pick out Raheem Sterling and one of a whopping nine key passes in Saturday’s evening kick-off.

First reserve: Erik Lamela (Tottenham) - 8.09

CM: Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 8.22

Coming in for some relatively harsh criticism following the defeat to Manchester United, Mount received the backing of Frank Lampard to retain his place against Leicester and certainly repaid that faith. Opening his account for the season on what was his home debut having robbed Wilfred Ndidi of possession, the youngster had five attempts in total as well as chipping in with three tackles and two interceptions.

First reserve: Dani Ceballos (Arsenal) - 8.20

LW: Bernard (Everton) - 8.63

Having only scored one league goal last season Bernard has matched that within two matches of this, scoring an early winner against Watford on Saturday. The Brazilian was a livewire all game, completing five dribbles and creating three chances, whilst also putting in an excellent defensive shift to help keep the Hornets at bay with four tackles.

First reserve: Sadio Mane (Liverpool) - 8.56

FW: Roberto Firmino (Liverpool) - 7.74

Having missed a significantly easier chance to wrap up the three points for Liverpool just moments earlier Firmino took his first league goal of the season superbly. The Brazilian evaded a number of Southampton challenges to dart across the edge of the box before firing back past Angus Gunn and also completed three dribbles in the 2-1 win.

First reserve: Anthony Martial (Manchester United) - 7.48

FW: Teemu Pukki (Norwich) - 10

Saving the best until last, Pukki may not have scored the first hat-trick of the season but his treble against Newcastle did earn the first perfect ten rating of the new campaign. The Finn led the line expertly, linking up play effectively and posing a real threat in the box all afternoon. His seven shots was the most in the league in gameweek two, hitting the target with six of those and taking all three of his goals with aplomb.
