Vardy and Maddison lead Foxes foursome in Premier League Team of the Week
After a 3-0 win over Brighton on Sunday night, Leicester are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week. Stars from Southampton, Aston Villa, Burnley and Manchester United also make the cut to build momentum ahead of the hectic festive schedule.
Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) - 8.52
Aston Villa's sole representative in the Premier League team of the week is goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez following his man of the match display in their narrow 1-0 win at rivals Wolves. The Argentine kept his fifth clean sheet of the season at Molineux, making an impressive seven saves in the victory, to yield a WhoScored rating of 8.52.
Matthew Lowton (Burnley) - 7.48
The first of two Burnley players to make the best XI this week, Matthew Lowton features at right-back on the back of the Clarets' 1-0 win at Arsenal on Sunday night. Burnley ended their dire record in north London to pile the pressure on Mikel Arteta with Lowton solid at the back. Indeed, he made six clearances, five interceptions and one tackle to make the side with a WhoScored rating of 7.48.
Jan Bednarek (Southampton) - 8.08
Southampton have three players make the Premier League team of the week on the back of their 3-0 win over table footers Sheffield United. Jan Bednarek put in a fine shift at the heart of the defence against the Blades, providing the assist for Che Adams' opener 10 minutes before the break. Eight clearances, two interceptions and two tackles contributed towards a clean sheet at St. Mary's and saw Bednarek return a WhoScored rating of 8.08.
Ben Mee (Burnley) - 8.31
The second Burnley player in the team of the week partners Bednarek at the heart of the defence. Sean Dyche's side have been much-improved following Ben Mee's return to action with the centre-back crucial in a clean sheet attaining display at the Emirates. The 31-year-old won seven aerial duels in all against Arsenal and was proactive in protecting the Burnley goal as he made seven clearances, four interceptions and one tackle to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.31.
Luke Shaw (Manchester United) - 7.62
In a drab Manchester Derby on Saturday evening, Luke Shaw put in a man of the match performance as he played his part in keeping the Manchester City attack at bay. Shaw made a commendable four tackles in the 0-0 draw and pushed forward well from defence as he completed three dribbles and created two goalscoring chances to land a WhoScored rating of 7.62.
Marc Albrighton (Leicester) - 8.14
Leicester are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week on the back of their 3-0 over Brighton with Marc Albrighton the first of four Foxes players to make the cut. Albrighton was unfortunate not to at least register an assist against the Seagulls having made two key passes as he drove forward from right wing-back well, completing five dribbles in all, to help garner a WhoScored rating of 8.14.
James Maddison (Leicester) - 8.91
With a WhoScored rating of 8.91, James Maddison is our Premier League player of the week. The Leicester creator bagged his second and third league goals of the season against Brighton, with those strikes coming from six shots; no player managed more in gameweek 12. After a campaign disrupted by injury, Maddison looks to be getting back into his stride just in time for the festive run.
Oriol Romeu (Southampton) - 8.27
Joining Maddison in the middle of the park is Southampton man Oriol Romeu.
