Eriksen continues fairytale return as Brentford dominate Premier League team of the week

 

Brentford sprung a huge upset as they earned a 4-1 win at Chelsea on Saturday and the Bees rightly dominante the Premier League team of the week after their resounding west London derby victory. Tottenham earned a huge result at Newcastle's expense and have three players make the best XI as they maintained their top-four push, while Crystal Palace, Norwich and Liverpool are also represented in the side. 

 

Tim Krul (Norwich) - 7.37 

 

It was a result that did not favour Norwich, but a 0-0 draw with Brighton ended a six-game losing streak, which could prove a confidence boost. Tim Krul put in a solid shift between the sticks for the Canaries as he made four saves to make the Premier League team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 7.37. 

 

Joe Gomez (Liverpool) - 7.72 

 

Deputising for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, Joe Gomez put in an Trent-esque cross for Diogo Jota's opener in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Watford in Saturday's lunchtime kickoff. That assist came from his only key pass in the victory, while four tackles and one interception helped Liverpool to a clean sheet and Gomez to a WhoScored rating of 7.72. 

 

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) - 8.00 

 

Crystal Palace dented Arsenal's Champions League push with a 3-0 win at Selhurst Park on Monday night. Centre-back Joachim Andersen registered a pair of assists for the Eagles, teeing up Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew to net in the first half, those coming from two key passes. The Gunners struggled against the Dane, too, as he made six clearances and two tackles to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.00. 

 

Grant Hanley (Norwich) - 7.97 

 

The man of the match from Norwich's 0-0 draw at Brighton, Grant Hanley partners Andersen at he heart of the defence with a WhoScored rating of 7.97. Little got past the Scot at the AMEX on Saturday as he made 13 clearances, two tackles and one interception, all the while winning six aerial duels and blocking three shots as he put in a spirited display for Dean Smith's side. 

 

Matt Doherty (Tottenham) - 7.84 

 

Rounding off the defence is the first of three Tottenham representatives in the team of the week. Matt Doherty has been a revelation for Spurs in 2022, nailing down a first team spot under Antonio Conte. Injuries meant he played Sunday's 5-1 win on the left, but that did not limit his impact as the Irishman scored his second league goal of the campaign in the resounding victory to feature with a WhoScored rating of 7.84. 

 

Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham) - 7.93 

 

Dejan Kulusevski has proven to be a great signing for Tottenham. The Swede registered his fifth Premier League assist of the season against Newcastle on Sunday having turned provider for Son Heung-Min after the break as he made four key passes in total at the weekend. Kulusevski worked hard off the ball as he made two tackles and one interception to feature in the best XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.93.

Vitaly Janelt (Brentford) - 8.46 

 

Brentford are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week following their 4-1 win at Chelsea on Saturday with Vitaly Janelt the stand out Bees performer having garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.46 at Stamford Bridge. Janelt rattled in goals number three and four for the season in the west London derby, netting from two of four shots, and in addition made two tackles, one interception and one clearance to make the XI. 

 

Christian Eriksen (Brentford) - 8.29 

 

Having suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last summer, Christian Eriksen continued his fairytale return to action with a goal against Chelsea on Saturday. Eriksen beat Edouard Mendy with one of two shots at Chelsea and was unfortunate not to add an assist having created three goalscoring chances to secure a place alongside Janelt in the middle of the park with a WhoScored rating of 8.29. 

 

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.50 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.50, Son Hueng-Min is the Premier League player of the week. Son had a direct hand in two of Tottenham's five goals against Newcastle, following up his assist for Ben Davies' equaliser shortly before the break with Spurs' third 10 minutes after the restart. The South Korean star made more key passes (5) than any other player over the weekend to star in the side. 

 

Ivan Toney (Brentford) - 8.03 

 

Ivan Toney's goalscoring run may have come to an end, but it wasn't for want of trying at Chelsea as he managed six shots on Saturday. Nevertheless, the striker provided the assist for Vitaly Janelt's second and the Bees' third at Stamford Bridge, that coming his only key pass in Brentford's 4-1 win. Six aerial duels won contributed towards his inclusion in the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.03. 

 

Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) - 8.43 

 

Joining Toney on the frontline is Brentford teammate Bryan Mbeumo. The young forward returned a brace of assists at Chelsea, providing for Vitaly Janely and Christian Eriksen shortly after the break. The pair of assists came from four key passes as Mbeumo rounds off the XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.43.
