Top Scorer Analysis: Goal breakdown shows Kane is Europe's most complete striker

A breakdown of the goals netted by each of the top ten scorers in Europe’s top five leagues this season proves that Harry Kane is the most complete finisher on the continent.

Assessing the number of goals that each has scored with different body parts (left foot, right foot and head) and the zones from which they score (inside the 6-yard box, between the 6-yard and 18-yard box and outside the 18-yard box), it becomes clear that where most have a pattern to those goals that they score, the Tottenham striker does not.

Indeed, Kane is the only player across Europe’s top five leagues to have scored at least five goals with his right foot (nine), left foot (nine) and head (six).

Meanwhile, while the Englishman has scored seven times from inside the six-yard box, proving that he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, only Lionel Messi (six) has scored more goals from outside the box of those to score 20 times or more this season.

The chart below highlights how the 24-year-old has the greatest variation in terms of body parts used to score and the range from which he finds the net.

The darker shaded triangle represents the different body parts used, with Messi the only player of the ten without a single headed goal, and just one with his weaker right foot compared to 24 with his wand of a left. Compatriot Sergio Aguero has also scored just once with his weaker foot - the left one - while Kane has a whopping nine by comparison, as well as the most with his head here (six).

The lighter shaded triangle, meanwhile, represents the zones from which each player has scored, with Luis Suarez, Mauro Icardi and Cristiano Ronaldo all failing to score from outside the box in the league thus far - an ability that the latter was once renowned for.

Kane, Mohamed Salah and Edinson Cavani each have three apiece behind Messi, while the Spurs man is out in front once more for goals from inside the six-yard box (seven).

While some might see that as a negative, it merely shows that Kane has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, and while some strikers have relied on that ability in England’s top-flight in the past - see the likes of Gary Lineker and Ruud van Nistelrooy - the Three Lions front man has it all.

In that sense, there’s no other forward of his quality quite like Kane right now.
