Euro U21 Group B top performers – Germany duo top rankings

Group B of the U21 European Championships concluded on Sunday evening, with Germany securing top spot ahead of Denmark. Here we run through the top five WhoScored rated players of those that made the best rated XI.

5. Andreas Skov Olsen (Denmark) – 7.43 rating

Andreas Skov Olsen only featured in 92 minutes of a possible 270 for Denmark and Niels Frederiksen may regret not using the 19-year-old more. The teenage forward made a breathtaking impact off the bench in Demark’s second group game against Austria, scoring and assisting in 16-minute spell to help his country win 3-1.

4. Sascha Horvath (Austria) – 7.48 rating

Austria took four points from their three group games, commendably ending their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Germany. Horvath scored or assisted in Austria’s first two games and was the WhoScored Man of the Match in their group opener against Serbia.

3. Joakim Maehle (Denmark) – 7.77 rating

Joakim Maehle played a direct hand in three goals in two appearances during the group phase of the competition, notably scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Austria on his first appearance in the competition. The 22-year-old also assisted in their 2-0 win over Serbia, though it wasn't enough for Frederiksen’s side to finish as one of the best second-place finishers.

2. Marco Richter (Germany) – 8.32 rating

Marco Richter earned a WhoScored rating above 9.00 in two of his three appearances in the group phase, remarkably playing a direct hand in five goals in that time. Germany started the tournament with a 3-1 win over Denmark and Richter played a direct hand in all three goals and followed that performance up with a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win over Serbia.

1. Gian-Luca Waldschmidt (Germany) – 8.58 rating

Gian-Luca Waldschmidt pips team-mate Marco Richter to the title of the group’s highest WhoScored rated player. The 23-year-old was the first player at this summer’s tournament to earn a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in a game after netting a hat-trick in Germany’s 6-1 win over Serbia in matchday two. Waldschmidt scored in all three group games and is the top scorer in the competition with five goals.
