Premier League round-up: The star performers from Sunday’s action
Here we run through the star men from the three Premier League matches on Sunday.
Watford 2-1 Leicester - Troy Deeney - 7.88 rating
Troy Deeney helped Watford ensure Brendan Rodgers started his tenure as Leicester manager with defeat. Deeney gave Watford the lead in the first half before providing a sublime pass for substitute Andre Gray to score the winner with a few minutes left. Deeney’s physical presence was a real problem for Leicester’s three centre-backs and the 30-year-old won four aerial duels and three fouls.
Fulham 1-2 Chelsea - Eden Hazard - 7.64 rating
Eden Hazard supplied his 11th assist of the Premier League campaign and it turned out to be the match winner for Maurizio Sarri’s side. Hazard also had five shots on his own and created two other goalscoring chances. The 28-year-old also completed two dribbles before coming off with 17 minutes of normal time remaining.
Everton 0-0 Liverpool - Virgil van Dijk - 8.43 rating
Both sides lacked quality in the final third to steal all three points and it was two defenders that stole the show in Sunday’s Merseyside derby. Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk edged Everton’s Michael Keane to the star man award after another imperious showing at the back. The Dutchman ranked top for clearances (13) and aerials won (12) at Goodison Park, while only team-mate Joel Matip attempted more passes than the Dutchman (63).
