Osimhen leads Napoli contingent in Serie A September best XI

 

Napoli won all four league games in September, scoring 12 and conceding just one as the Partenopei dominate the WhoScored Serie A team of the month. 

 

David Ospina (Napoli) - 7.20 

 

Napoli enjoyed a perfect September as they won all four matches, conceding just the once in the process. It wasn't a quiet month for David Ospina either, who saved 10 of the 11 shots on target he faced, conceding just one goal in the process. With a WhoScored rating of 7.20, the goalkeeper is the first of six Partenopei representatives to feature in the Serie A team of the month. 

 

Pierre Kalulu (AC Milan) - 7.31 

 

Deputising for the injured Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu exceeded expectations in September as he returned a WhoScored rating of 7.31. The standout display came in the Rossoneri's 2-1 win at Spezia, with the 21-year-old registering his first assist of the season in the victory, as nine tackles, four interceptions and four key passes helped the youngster secure a place in the XI. 

 

Bremer (Napoli) - 7.65 

 

Bremer bagged his first league goal of the season in September, netting in a man of the match performance in Torino's resounding 4-0 win over Salernitana. The Brazilian impressed in the air, too, with his 17 aerial duels won the third best in Serie A to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 7.65. 

 

Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli) - 7.43 

 

Kalidou Koulibaly joins Bremer at the back having returned a WhoScored rating of 7.43 in September. The Napoli centre-back had a direct hand in three goals last month, scoring two, including a decisive strike in their 2-1 win over Juventus. 255 passes was the sixth best return in the division to strengthen his argument for inclusion in this side. 

 

Mario Rui (Napoli) - 7.50 

 

Ranking fifth for accurate passes is Mario Rui, with 259, as the full-back rounds off the defence with a WhoScored rating of 7.50. The Portuguese left-back provided one assist in September, that coming from one of eight key passes. Eight goalscoring chances created ranked among the top 10 players to justify Rui's selection. 

 

Federico Chiesa (Juventus) - 7.61 

 

The sole Juventus representative is wing-wizard Federico Chiesa. The 23-year-old scored his first league goal of the season in September, hitting the back of the net in a man of the match display against Spezia. He was unfortunate not to add an assist, too, as Chiesa made eight key passes to secure the right wing spot with a WhoScored rating of 7.61.

Fabian Ruiz (Napoli) - 7.61 

 

The fourth Napoli player in the team of the month, Fabian Ruiz made more accurate passes (336) than any other player in Serie A in September to help lock in a spot in midfield. In addition, the Spaniard scored one and provided an assist last month to land a WhoScored rating of 7.61. 

 

Nicolo Barella (Inter) - 7.51 

 

No player had a direct hand in more goals than Nicolo Barella (4) in Serie A in September as the Inter star did enough to partner Ruiz in the middle of the park. Barella provided assists in meetings with Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Atalanta, and netted in the resounding 6-1 win over Bologna, all the while creating at least three more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities (7) to help yield a WhoScored rating of 7.51. 

 

Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli) - 7.80 

 

Lorenzo Insigne was one of two players to end September with four clear-cut goalscoring chances to his name and features on the right flank. The Italy international made more key passes (17) than any other player in Serie A last month as he had a direct hand in four goals, assisting three. It was an impressive month from Insigne, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.80. 

 

Victor Osimhen (Napoli) - 7.93 

 

The sixth and final Napoli player in the side is striker Victor Osimhen. No player scored more goals than the 22-year-old (4) in Italy's top tier last month, with those coming from 15 shots; only Ciro Immobile (18) managed more. All in all, Osimhen did enough to end September with a WhoScored rating of 7.93, that better than any other player in Serie A. 

 

Ruslan Malinovskyi (Atalanta) - 7.69 

 

Rounding off the Serie A team of the month is Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi. The Ukrainian had a direct hand in two goals in September, scoring one and assisting another. Only Insigne created more goalscoring chances than Malinovskyi (14) in Serie A in September to contribute towards the 28-year-old's inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.69.
