UEFA Nations League preview team news and prediction: England vs Denmark

England conclude the international break against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League looking to make it three wins from three.

The Three Lions started the break with a 3-0 win over Wales in a friendly before coming from behind to defeat No.1 ranked side in the world Belgium at the weekend in the UEFA Nations League.

Triumph over Belgium has left England in a commanding position to top Group 2 in League A but they have generally underwhelmed of late despite picking up positive results.

UEFA Nations League Group Standings

England head into round four with a one point cushion over second place Belgium after their victory over the Red Devils on Sunday. While in a commanding position, Gareth Southgate's side can't afford a dramatic slip up here as a Denmark victory would see them draw level on points with the Three Lions and allow Belgium to regain top spot. 

Denmark have four points from their first three matches after following up their 0-0 draw with England in the reverse fixture with a routine 3-0 win away to Iceland last time out. It's still all to play for in Group 2 at the halfway stage.

Team News

England captain Harry Kane is set to return to the starting XI on Wednesday night after only being deemed fit enough for a place on the bench against Belgium. Gareth Southgate risks the wrath of Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, who saw his appeal for Kane to be released rejected.

Not even named in Southgate's original squad, Reece James could cap a sensational break with a start against Denmark after impressing the England management. Trent Alexander-Arnold disappointed against Belgium and looks set to return to the bench, with Kyle Walker being used at centre-back again.

Wolves' Conor Coady looks set to return to the frame with Tottenham's Eric Dier an injury doubt, while Mason Mount is tipped to retain his place in the side despite harsh criticism from supporters at the weekend.

With neither Ben Chilwell nor Kieran Trippier available for England's final match, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka or Ainsley Maitland-Niles will get a start at left wing-back against Denmark.

Unlike England, Denmark have a relatively settled squad and few changes are expected from the side that beat Iceland at the weekend. Tottenham's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will hope to keep his place in the team for the trip to Wembley after being dropped in the reverse fixture in September.

Key Battle: Mason Mount vs Christian Eriksen

Mason Mount's inclusion in the starting XI will no doubt produce groans up and down the country. Mount may not produce exciting football like Aston Villa's Jack Grealish but he is certainly a manager's dream as far as Frank Lampard and Gareth Southgate are concerned. Both love the 21-year-old, with the latter even choosing to praise the Chelsea midfielder when asked directly about Grealish.

Mount will be deployed on the wing against Denmark but his task will be the operate out wide and also centrally to help connect England's midfield and attack. Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson struggle in that regard and for that reason Mount has a huge role to play, not just bringing high-energy to the press.

Carrying out that responsibility for Denmark is ex-Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen. The 28-year-old has lot his way in the last 12 months and found the going tough since joining Inter at the start of the year but is still the danger man for Kasper Hjulmand's side. At his best, Eriksen is the ideal No.10 to get those in front of him firing on all cylinders. England captain Harry Kane will know too well what Eriksen is capable of.
