1. PHILIPP MAX (AUGSBURG)
Linked with a high profile switch to the Premier League, it’s no surprise that Football INDEX users have reacted by investing heavily into Augsburg defender Philipp Max. Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with a move for the 24-year-old since the weekend’s action and that has resulted in a stunning 24.04% increase in Max’s share price in the last 24 hours.
The German defender has made a sensational start to the season for Augsburg, playing a direct hand in eight goals in 15 league appearances. Not only is that five more than he managed in 25 league appearances last season, but far more than any other defender in Europe’s top five leagues this term
While a January move to England appears premature at the moment, investing in Max could still prove a shrewd decision purely based on his exceptional performances this season. At £0.66 a share, a small outlay now could reap big rewards in the future.
2. HEUNG-MIN SON (TOTTENHAM)
Perhaps one of the most underrated players in the Premier League, Heung-Min Son is certainly appreciated by Football INDEX users at the moment. The Tottenham forward’s share price has increased 15.03% over the last 24 hours, reflecting a more prominent role for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in recent matches.
The 25-year-old has scored in each of his last three appearances for Tottenham and even finished as the WhoScored Man of the Match in Saturday’s 5-1 win over Stoke (9.19 rating). The South Korea international is making himself an indispensable option for Pochettino and is undroppable on current form.
Other than a difficult trip to Manchester City this weekend, Tottenham have a kind run of fixtures over the festive period and Pochettino will target maximum points from those other games. With that in mind, Son’s share price, which is currently £1.15, should continue to soar.
3. LUCAS VAZQUEZ (REAL MADRID)
Reports that Real Madrid want to sign Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will not go away and now it has even been suggested Lucas Vazquez could move in the other direction to sweeten the deal. Those reports have coincided with a purple patch of form for the Spain international, who has scored or assisted in Madrid’s last two matches.
Those two factors have contributed to a 12.44% increase in Vazquez’s share price, but proceed with caution if you are contemplating backing the 26-year-old. Liverpool will certainly not let Salah leave less than six months after signing the Egypt international and it’s unlikely they would accept Vazquez in any swap deal.
The Spaniard is also a bit-part player for Madrid and will never be given a solid run of games for the reigning European champions unless injuries force Zinedine Zidane’s hand. Gareth Bale’s return to fitness will also limit Vazquez’s first team opportunities further.
4. JAMIE VARDY (LEICESTER)
Leicester have quietly put together a very impressive run of form under new manager Claude Puel. The Foxes have only lost one of their opening seven matches with the Frenchman at the helm and that was against runaway league leaders Manchester City.
Jamie Vardy has scored seven goals in 16 Premier League appearances this season but only two have come during Puel’s tenure. The 30-year-old hasn’t underperformed but certainly hasn’t been firing on all cylinders under Puel, so it might be worth swerving the England international on Football INDEX. His share price has increased 12.08% over the last 24 hours, but you may have missed out on the spike unless he rediscovers his best form in front of goal in the next few days.
5. ALEX BERENGUER (TORINO)
Alex Berenguer was handed just his third league start of the season in Torino’s 3-1 win away to Lazio on Monday evening and repaid Sinisa Mihajlovic’s faith with a goal in their historic victory. It was the 22-year-old’s first goal in Italy and that has triggered an 11.80% increase in his share price on Football INDEX.
The Spanish forward will now try and stake a regular starting berth for Torino, but it’s by no means a guarantee, particularly as there is strong competition in advanced areas. Can Berenguer force his way above M’Baye Niang and Adem Ljajic? That’s the gamble Football INDEX users have taken in the past 24 hours, but I’m not as convinced it will be enough to worth jumping on the bandwagon. £0.57 a share certainly isn’t expensive, but it’s unlikely to bring the sort of rewards that come with the gamble.
