Why Manchester United are yet to extend Ighalo's loan revealed

Manchester United want to know when the 2019/20 campaign will resume before trying to extend Odion Ighalo's loan spell from Shanghai Shenhua, claims The Daily Mail.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side signed Ighalo on a five-month loan deal in January and the former Watford striker was a revelation before football was suspended.

Ighalo played a direct hand in five goals in his first three starts for United in all competitions and there was even chatter of a permanent deal for the 30-year-old.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has dirsupted Ighalo's momentum and he has now entered the final three weeks of his loan deal with United.

It was agreed Ighalo's deal with United would expire at the end of May, a month earlier than most loan deals, in order for the forward to return to China for Shanghai Shenhua's league campaign.

United want Ighalo to help them complete the season but will not make a decision on extending his loan until they have more clarity about the 2019/20 campaign.

There is also the fact Marcus Rashford will be close to full fitness by the time Premier League clubs get the greenlight to resume the season.
