Marseille beat Atletico and Fulham to sign Tottenham outcast

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is close to leaving Tottenham for French side Marseille, reports the Daily Mail.

Hojbjerg struggled for game time under Ange Postecoglou last season, starting just eight league matches for Spurs.

The Denmark international has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs in recent months, with Atletico Madrid and Fulham rumoured destinations for Hojbjerg.

However, it looks as though Marseille have won the race to land the 28-year-old after lodging a £13.5m bid for the former Southampton man.

It's reported that newly-appointed Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi was key in convincing Hojbjerg to move to the French side.

Hojbjerg has cut a divisive figure for the north London side with the Dane struggling to match the demands set by Postecoglou in the latter's debut season at Spurs.

Hojbjerg scored just one Champions League goal during his time at Spurs, that incidentally coming in the 96th minute in a 2-1 group stage win over Marseille in 2022.
