Napoli have had a €20m (£14.6m) bid for Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen rejected, according to Football Oranje.
Maurizio Sarri’s side had been hoping to lure the Ajax captain to Naples when the transfer window re-opens in January in a bid to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.
However, Napoli will have to make a new offer that the Dutch side simply cannot resist, or look elsewhere for new recruits.
Since the start of the season, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder has played a direct role in 13 goals (7 goals + 6 assists) and Klaassen has also created more chances than any other Ajax player in the Eredivisie.
