Jose Mourinho set for stunning Real Madrid return

Jose Mourinho will almost certainly be re-appointed Real Madrid manager at the end of the season, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Madrid are on course to change manager at the end of the season after Santiago Solari’s side were eliminated from the Champions League in midweek.

Los Blancos have won the Champions League in each of the last three years but will no longer defend their title after achieving their worst finish since 2010.

Madrid were embarrassed 4-1 at home to Ajax on Tuesday and Solari’s position at the club is now in serious doubt following their round-of-16 exit.

Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United before Christmas, has been on the charm offensive this week and is now closing in on a return to the Bernabeu.

The Portuguese spent three years at Madrid before returning to Chelsea in 2013 and won one league title during his time in Spain.

Despite being out of work, Mourinho does not want to take over as Madrid boss midway through the season and will instead wait until the summer.

Many believe Mourinho lost his magic during his first stint at Madrid and it remains to be seen how the changing room would welcome the 56-year-old.

Nevertheless, Mourinho recorded his highest points per game average during his time at Madrid compared to any where else in his career (2.30).
